I hope sergio is staying,i'll be keeping my fingers crossed all summer for that,if he goes i don't know who the best fit will be just that we need someone older than this kid
I think he'll stay too, we might still get Aubameyang depending on who leaves, he seems the right age(27) bags of pace, proven quality in a very good league.

You've already alluded(correct me if I'm wrong it was a good few pages back) to your beliefs that because we tried to sign him last summer it means Pep really wants him and we will get him this summer at any expense.
£38m offer for a 17 year old , think about it really have a good think about it
Get him no try to get him there is a difference

That is what we need,we have the next generation strike force already here,if jesus hadn't got injured we wouldn't have this many pages in this thread imo

We can't go with such a young attack force, they need experience with them especially the CL games,we have jesus now and sergio that's enough, even if sergio goes we should replace him with someone mid to late 20's with plenty of experience

Why?

Why do they need years of doing badly in the Champions League to prepare them to play for us?

Besides, Sterling has the experience of a 25 year old, Sané has been playing Champions League football since he was 17 and Jesus is Brazil's number 9 - there is no pressure he will ever come under for us that compares to the weight of expectation that carries.

We have experience heads in the squad, we don't need it in the attack. Experience didn't stop Aguero missing half a dozen chances in the 2 Monaco games, and Mbappé's inexperience didn't stop him getting 2 goals either.

"We need experience" is just a tired phrase that gets thrown around and it's been wrong since Alan Hansen said his line on MOTD.

Honestly if Aguero leaves might not be a problem for us , Mbabbè could be more suitable for Guardiola 's game plan, I know that would be a risk, but maybe it could be a winning bet

Thought about it... still think you're wrong, think about this: £38m gamble vs world record fee gamble. If we are going to spend that kind of money on him at all I don't see it happening this window, a season to prove he's worth anywhere near it at the very least in a much easier league if someone else gets him so be it, bad timing.

There will be more of these situations to come in the future, it's clear our fanbase needs time to adapt to being able to compete for players like we can now and realise we can't win them all and sometimes you'll be glad of it, only time will tell.

Auba would not be a good target for us especially for the price Dortmund would request. Also, Auba is essentially the taller and faster version of Sergio and much like Sergio he needs 4 chances before he scores so with this in mind it would be pointless to sell Aguero to get him.

Strange first sentence,why say that?
When the going gets tough you need experience of the situation, adding another 18yr old to the mix is the wrong to do,the kids are not at all consistent,a couple of them off it at the same time and we are stuffed
A world record fee for an 18yr old? you think that is a sensible thing to do? everyone likes a shiny new thing but we already have that,we need a whole new defence and replacement for yaya this summer and if sergio leaves someone mid to late 20's who knows what they are doing

Sorry but disagree he's nothing like Sergio and I never said we would be selling Sergio.. he offers the kind of pace which Aguero arguably never had, totally different kind of player in many respects. The last evaluation I saw of him seems a much better price than we would be paying for Mbappé the trouble is we are going only off what we read in the papers which is sometimes way off the truth.

The only way we bring in a striker at the level and age of Aubamayang is if Aguero goes. There is no way we can keep Aguero and Aubamayang happy and give game time to Sane, Sterling and Jesus.

You could be right but then again the game is changing players at the top level surely appreciate rotation when the games are coming thick and fast like they do for a premier league player. On the flipside can we really justify a world record fee for someone who will be happy to be benched because he's still learning... just think about how crazy that sounds, the game has gone mad.

Agree with this really. We don't need a young forward with world class potential. If Kun leaves, we need someone to lead the way. Messi, Aubameyang, Dybala, Griezmann, Sanchez.

Having said this if we did sign Mbappé, we'd be looking absolutely phenomenal in a couple of years.

You didn't think hard enough
Does pep want him the offer last summer proves that and I have never said I want him
As for the fanbase adapting to these situations I agree that's why I always say try to get him

How much clearer can I be? A £38m gamble is much easier to take than a world record fee, he wanted him, may still do but the price will have to be right if it's not he wont... you're the one who's not thought about this hard enough, also you clearly do want him haha.

I think sometimes you need to put what Mbappé is doing into context. He's going to score 20 goals at 18 years old.

Aguero was 20 the first time he got over 20 goals in a season.

Messi was 22
Higuain was 20
Suarez was 21
C.Ronaldo was 22
Cavani was 24
Ibrahimovic was 23
Rooney was 21
Aubameyang was 24 (also in France)
Dybala was 22
Falcao - 23
Icardi was 22
Lewandowski was 20
Griezmann was 23
Sanchez was 25
Müller was 24
Benzema was 21
Kane was 22
Diego Costa was 25
Lukaku was 19

If you want to go back a while...

Tevez 21
Fernando Torres 20
Eto'o - 23
Totti - 26
Batistuta - 25
Del Piero - 23
Henry 23
Shearer 22 (and in a longer season)
Van Nistelrooy 23
Raúl 19

Mbappe turned 18 in December remember.

Young players don't get that many goals. They aren't supposed to. Even the very best teenage strikers usually only show little hints of how good they could be, they don't discover the consistency to score 20+ goals a season for 3 or 4 years.

And then, Mbappé isn't just doing this as a teenager, he's doing it in his debut season. That's why we wanted to pay £40m for him last summer and why there's so much of a fuss over him...he's absolutely destroying the achievements of the worlds best strikers when they were his age, and he's doing it from a standing start.

I don't know if we're going to sign him, I'd be really, really sad to see Sergio go, the amount of money it would cost would be insane - but people seem to just not really be getting why his exploits this season are attracting the attention they have been. This is why.

To be honest I'm surprised how much people are undervaluing him in here after the CL games against Monaco, because everyone was fucking terrified of him when he got the ball.

You could be right but then again the game is changing players at the top level surely appreciate rotation when the games are coming thick and fast like the do for a premier league player.

Jesus, Aguero and Auba all fighting for one position would be ridiculous, no way Auba considers coming to city if Aguero is still here. For his price would rather get Belotti or Icardi or even Lewandowski.

Because it's true?!

"When the going gets tough you need experience of the situation"

Which situation is that? League title race? The kids have already done it.

KO round of the CL? Kids have already done it.

"The kids aren't consistent" Neither is Aguero! 3 goals in his last 11 league games? First goal against an opposition in the top half of the table was against Liverpool, in March, 29 games gone.

Whats the worst that can happen with these inexperienced kids? They completely lose their heads and blow an open goal in the biggest home game of the season before getting so angry they 2 foot an opposition player and get banned for 4 games and the second time of the season, sparking a mass brawl?

I love Aguero, would be very sad to see him leave, but keeping on because he's consistent and experienced just points to how weak the argument is.

Would be a real shame if the rags got him, no one else will be offering the money they've reportedly put up. Martial is already starting to stagnate and Pogba struggling due to system limitations, would be a travesty if Jose got his hands on Mbappe.

Martial shows that spending 50m on a kid from the french league is a huge risk and one we don't need to take

I was proving my point that pep wants him never said anything about gamble that's you twisting again
Clearly I want him? I've only seen him play 2 games 1 live and 1 on TV both against us i wouldn't recognise if he was stood next to me in the south stand
I just have a feeling Aguero going and this lad is his possible replacement
