What if we struggle next season?

To be honest I wasn't that overwhelmed at Pep joining but glad that he did.

In all honesty issues have been out of his control, players on long term contracts who need moving on but it's easier to say than do, big influences in dressing room who could/would undermine his decisions.

He has made mistakes but I am more optimistic now having him been here a year than I was when he started.

Bravo being dropped shows once he realises a mistake he will admit/rectify it.

He seems more committed to being a success here and will want to prove he can handle the Premier League.

We have had some very poor decisions go against us this year and also had bad luck again with injuries trying to compete in 4 competitions.

If we are where we are currently in a year I would be very surprised but the first to say it is poor I am sure will be Pep

There will be a positive if our season is just as bad , (champs league football and another visit to wembley what a disaster) maybe the tossers who post all the negative shite in the matchday and post match forums will f*ck off and take their glory hunting , plastic , remote control holding mates with them and leave our club to genuine supporters who do not think football was invented in 2012.
Well said that man.

I'm a massive pep fan.
But if this time next year we were in the same position do you think Pepsi job would be under threat.
Been having a heated discussion with a bloke at work about it.
He thinks we would sack him.
I say we wouldn't.
does anyone really think that pep will not get it right ? he has inherited a load of not good enough anymore and constantly tells us that it is both boxes where we fail, he is dead right, we are the best team in the league now but unfortunately we need some fine tuning and changes, he will do it and we will fly

I think most will agree he'll get it right. he did inherit a weaker squad than his previous jobs but he knew what he was coming to. my beef is yes we are weak but why then rotate to make us weaker? I would also have decided on a back 4 and stuck with them, chopping and changing the defence all the time hasn't helped at all. with a bit more nous and new players in I think he'll do much better next season.

Third place in the PL and the FA Cup would be brilliant after the disappointing season we have had.

Our owners pumped in a billion pounds so that we would be competitive in the PL and UCL every year. As City fans need to raise our expectation levels to that of our owners and stop thinking we're doing OK when we scrap for 4th and go out of the UCL in the R16.

Pep's an iconic manager who makes it easy to attract the best players in the world. It was a great coup for our club to get him. By any objective measure he's underperformed. The responsibility is entirely his and most of his problems have been self inflicted. He's failed to get the best out of the players at his disposal. At the start of the season we were favourites for the title and most pundits said our squad was the best in the league.

I think next year will be much better, but if it isn't, then we shouldn't be afraid to think again. If that means Pep goes so be it. There are two teams that stand out for me in 50 years of watching football, one is Brazil 1970 and the other is Pep's Barcelona. I understand why our owners looked at Barca and decided to try and emulate that model. We are approaching a crucial point in this strategy now and the next 2 seasons will tell if it's been a success.

Whatever happens we're not going away. We will be successful and we will win trophies. If Pep can't deliver he goes and we move on to a manager that can.

I'd rather suffer for the next couple of years (a cup thrown in) if it means we are going to make all our rivals suffer for the next five or ten.

Our recent success had no foundation for continuity, as it was simply the impact of our money being finally brought to bear.

The new TV deal has given birth to a financial arms race, where our previous advantage is now effectively impotent, in the wider sense.

Pep's arrival has afforded us a different edge and appeal which will allow us to still compete for the top players, whilst making sure that if we do come across another dominant period, we are better served to rub faces in it for much longer.

There isn't a single manager out there who would be able to do better with what he has and what the level of competition is in this league.

Great post and agree completely.

yeah, the last paragraph was my own personal dig as i like managers to be on the touchline representing the club, wear a scarf, a club coat, a training top or a club blazer. he just looks like a bloke who has popped out for a bottle of milk and stopped to watch the local team before he heads home.

Picky i know, dont think he did it at Bayern either, just gives the impression that he's not in it like we are. To me.

And yet he's in the tunnel at Chelsea backing up his backroom staff and calling people out.

You are clearly deluded, What an utter crock of crap. Just because we were once shite does not mean that we should always remain so. Football fans want the best they can reasonably expect from the club they support. When we had Swales/ franny lee and got dumped into division two we were all pissed off because we knew the club was mismanaging its resources.

When we had bernstein and royal and clawed our way back from the brink, we loved it because we achieved what we should have done and the players became cult heroes.

When we got a bit more dosh and keegan took over we played great football and we all relished every game.

When Pearce took the reigns we were skint again and we put up with what we got.

Now we have more resources than any club in world football and supposedly the best manager, it stands to reason that we are not satisfied with finishing fourth and playing in the champions league.

Just except that this season and the last one have been poor and hopefully we can begin to fulfil our potential next season.
a little advice.
not sure its a good idea calling people rags and plastics when they go to every game and have done since before you were born.

If they were born before '56 cup final , then i salute them all .

If next season isn't an improvement on this season, then it would have to mean that our summer recruitment strategy had comprehensively failed. It beggars belief that we will upgrade our defence and not improve. Just the addition of a couple of quality full backs should make a major difference. So, in the very unlikely eventuality that we do not improve, the club would need to look at more than the manager.

I don't think 3rd and an FA Cup would be underperforming with the players we have but it is underperforming with the money spent. I don't think much of the latter can be blamed on the manager as its been a problem for a few years.

Apart from Stones, non of our defenders would get into the side of another top 6 team. The full backs would struggle to start for teams playing mid and lower mid table.

Players like Kompany, Zabba, Yaya, Clichy, Kolarov aren't even close to the level when we won the league and the new players we bought in mostly aren't close to being as good as that older guard was.

We seem sorted in the forward areas now but keeper, defense and defencive mid is not even close to being title winning level.

I've seen enough this season to know that when that back line is sorted we'll be the top dog again.

I'd also point out as well that major game changing decisions went against us in home games involving the top 4 and we would surely have won them all of they were correctly called. These decisions stopped players from scoring goals and being at least clean through. Chelsea also had the huge benefit of not being in Europe as well.

More than valid.
