It's Quiet - a new dawn

So you think letting him go to a team willing to pay the price to get him would be prudent rather than paying what it takes to get Pep his man?

The club has already sold Guardiola short with a litany of ill advised signings and elephant contracts. I'd be surprised if they don't meet his every expectation this summer, even if it means paying a bit extra.

What makes you think Guardiola would want to spend that much of his budget on Sanchez?

And what makes you think any club would be willing to pay 2x what he's worth?

There's 2 clubs he might go to, us or Chelsea, outside of that I don't care because they're not our competition.

Chelsea are not going to spend that much on him, and given a choice between selling him to us for 35m or Chelsea for 35m, Arsenal would choose us every single time.

You must be fucking mad if you think Chelsea or any other team will pay £50m for him (maybe the rags).

He won't go to the rags either, he's interested in winning things and them finishing 6th or 7th isn't going to make him jump ship to Salford.

Angel Correa if they want somebody to play in the three behind the striker, not quite there yet but he will be soon and he's 6 or 7 years younger than Sanchez.
Pulisic is another.

They're stocked in those positions though so I'd be more worried about them bringing in an upgrade on Giroud.

Sorry you could take any of those two - both younger I agree, but they would come with absolutely no guarantees - There are a hell of a lot of players who have their records that have come to the prem and flopped. Sanchez scores goals and can play anywhere across the front three. He gives work rate , goals and flexibility - everything Pep wants.

I'm not sure Pep even wants Sanchez, but if he does then it's crazy to say the club would let him go elsewhere rather than paying the price.

Sure, PSG aren't our competitors domestically, but if Pep wants Sanchez then plugging in another player or "making do" is only really the situation we had this season all over again.

He should be allowed to build his team as he envisages and I have no doubt he'll be given unlimited resources to do so. Whether that includes Sanchez I don't know, but in a world where Paul fucking Pogba is worth £100m, Alexis Sanchez is easily worth £50m and that's without taking into consideration that Pep could get the best out of him.

Not with 12 months left he isn't. 30 would be good, 35 would be pushing it.

£50m for a player who'd be free 12 months late would be a shambles.

I think 40-50 million is about right. Baring in mind Van Persie went for nearly 30 million five years ago and inflation since then in transfer fees has been pretty dramatic.

Has anyone got a steer on this that's actually true?

The Chilean journalist touting it and the Radio Station he works for are normally relatively reliable. They had Bravo to City pretty early on last summer unless I'm mistaken.

Also, Chilean media were always ahead of the curve in terms of stuff about Pellegrini. So yes, I suspect that this has serious legs.

Van Persie was £22m.

Kroos was £20m in 2014.

Gundogan went for £21m last summer, fair enough injuries may have taken off 5-10m.

Mkhitaryan went for £27m after a season when he scored 23 goals and got 32 assists.

Hummels went for £30m - and he was going to a direct rival who the clubs can't stand.

Those are the ones which I can remember, if there's other top players who moved with a year to go they might add context but I doubt they'd be anywhere near £40m.

With Arsenal's only other choice being selling him to Chelsea, a move which their fans and Wenger would absolutely despise, £35m would be reasonable.

Plenty willing to pay £50m for Sanchez, including Juventus.

Pep also fancies Llorente as a target man, maybe Bony going back the other way.

Getting rid of Iheanacho for a 33 year old Llorente, Jesus Christ.

Another old player we'll not be able to get rid of as well, assuming he signs a 3 year contract which is the minimum we could hope for, that ties us to him until he's 36.

Pizarro at bayern munich?
Drogba at chelsea?
Larsson at bayern?
Not saying llorente is quite at that level but he would give us an extra option and has done well in the prem. Sign him on a two year deal, loan out kelechi

Drogba at Chelsea, a year long stint which yielded 4 goals and the main reason they don't have Lukaku anymore. Ask them if they'd do that again and I guarantee the answer is no.

Not exactly a convincing argument.

TBH all of those examples simply reinforce why I suspect it'll be around 40/50 million pounds. I appreciate why you could argue it should be 35 million but suspect it won't be IMO, it'll be more because he's a goalscorer, in his prime, and is moving from one PL club to another. As I say, in terms of inflation since 2012 it's been pretty wild. Hazard for 32 million in 2012 - Mbappe/Bernardo SIlva being talked about in the 80 million plus bracket with clubs ready to pay that.

Higuain went for £75m last summer, I imagine Sanchez would be going for something similar if there wasn't 1 year left on his contract. The transfers have similar circumstances otherwise
