How much is paid for from the sale of house or estate? Genuine question.

Also, My friend has just sold her father's house (in London) to fund his care - she is not expecting to see anything at the end of it. so the current system is badly flawed

The difference is that most people don't understand or know what happens with the current system.

They see the suggestion that people may only keep £100k and think it's awful but they've no idea that at present, the £500k house has to be sold and the beneficiaries barely end up with £30k in the worst case scenario.

I'm doing my best for her as are others. She's not perfect, and occasionally needs a gentle nudge. I just see her potential being wasted by the system.

Any work is always good I found. A couple of earned quid in the pocket does far more for self esteem than wasting away at home.

It has nothing to do with private medical cover or the NHS or anything.

Your point was if someone was sick and out of work - then lets hope they were 'smart' and took income protection or critical illness, in which case why have a NHS ? everyone can just be 'smart' and get various sickness,illness,critical covers

They are proposing a National Care Service. Here's what their manifesto says:

The National Care Service will be built alongside the NHS, with a shared requirement for single commissioning, partnership arrangements, pooled budgets and joint working arrangements. We will build capacity to move quickly towards a joined-up service that will signpost users to all the appropriate services at the gateway through which they arrive.

In its first years, our service will require an additional £3 billion of public funds every year, enough to place a maximum limit on lifetime personal contributions to care costs, raise the asset threshold below which people are entitled to state support, and provide free end of life care. There are different ways the necessary monies can be raised. We will seek consensus on a cross-party basis about how it should be funded, with options including wealth taxes, an employer care contribution or a new social care levy.

At the moment there's a problem because councils sometimes struggle to take on funding commitments from the primary care sector, which leads to bed-blocking. It's far more expensive to keep people in hospital but they have to stay there until councils agree a care plan. I've been through all this with my mum the last few years. Fortunately Bury Council seem to be one of the better ones and are prepared to put in place deferred cost agreements, whereby they pay for some of the funding shortfall but reclaim that when a property is eventually sold, before or after death. What they/you pay is based on a means test but currently you're allowed to keep £23,250 (excluding your home or pension pot). That's for residential care. If you require nursing care, as my mum now does, then the council pays the majority. So they'll pay something like £750 a week but if there's any shortfall then that needs to be funded. My mum's pension covers the gap so there's no issue.

It needs some joined-up thinking and an integrated care service certainly helps in that by bringing everything under one umbrella.

Let's not forget Corbyn said Bin Laden's death (a man who successfully plotted the murder of thousands) was a tragedy. No doubt he would order him to face a trial where he would become a figurehead and live martyr to every terrorist going.

I'm sorry but Corbyn may have his principles and all of that but they do not belong in a world that is not perfect and personally if he wants to sit around a table with ISIS then he is welcome to try... Good luck with that one.

From air bombing the middle East from the thirties and overturning governments in the middle East years before ISIS, most people would work out they are there because the environment for it to feed on has been facilitated by the west. Not just me and Corbyn would think that.

The NHS makes a poorly person better.

Income protection provides a level of monthly income (capped at 2/3rds of the net income) which starts paying out and replacing income lost to injury or illness from a predetermined date of absence from work (usually between 4 and 52 weeks).

Critical Illness cover pays out a lump sum on diagnosis of a specified critical illness (think heart attack, cancer, dementia, organ transplant - normally 40-50 covered). It's usually recommended to have between two and four years annual salary as a sum assured.

So nothing to fucking do with the NHS or paying for medical bills as I stated. When you're in a hole and over your head, stop digging. You thought you were making a point but you didn't understand the subject matter and make yourself look a bit silly. It happens, don't fret it.

But off the top of my head, I can only think of one person that has actively supported the IRA putting themselves forward to become the Prime Minister of the UK.

I would expect an awful lot of UK citizens will take offence at that and, accordingly, believe that Corbyn is not a fit and proper person to be considered for the role of PM for that reason alone - it would be enough for me.
