Queues

There are still people who think you can walk in two mins before kick off? It's not City v Swindon, and it ain't the early 60s!

Funnily enough Dave, I can.

Look at my picture. See entrance M2. It's always like that. I can walk in anytime. No queues. No problem. Now look at the queue for entrance M1.(out of shot) You tell me what's going wrong?

As for my partner and daughter, they always get to the ground early so they can get to their seats in time. They take the queues into consideration. On Saturday we left a little later and got stuck in traffic going to the match.

Yes, people would just like to turn up and go straight in, just like they've always done, bar the odd derby game, etc, instead of queuing for 20 minutes or more, with the game about to begin or started. If everyone turned up at the same time 20 minutes before kick off, can you imagine the queues outside the stadium. The thing is Dave, it's always the f***ing fans fault! How inconsiderate of us. Let's plan our lives around getting into the ground. F*** everything else! Perhaps the club should take some of the blame, no? How long has this shambles been going on for now? Yet, things don't seem to be getting better. And the searches are getting more and more random in their nature. Typical City!

I generally get to the Academy stadium around the same amount of time before kick off as it seems thousands will do tomorrow night. And there is a queue at NE entrance. NW entrance isn't open 'cos nobody is allowed in the West Stand generally. The queue invariably moves about a millimetre per minute, AND I GET PISSED OFF. There's one guy searching bags who holds the entire queue up including those without bags. And I get pissed off with it! I am beginning to understand!

I usually arrive at the stadium 15/20 mins before kick off via Sir Joe Mercer Way, having two options of entry on the lower East Stand, turnstiles B or K. Whilst queues at tunstiles B can be large I can normally stroll into K.

Queues seem somewhat unimportant now. Security MUST be increased. I don't want to be blown up by these bastards so if it means I have to arrive much earlier then so be it. Agree that the security folk need to look AND be more professional and I for one will make this point to the club but if this means delays in getting in the ground it's a necessity.

^ yes but there is also the point that anyone ticketless can wander up to a queue of people before the match, or maybe the queues around the trams after the match, that is where anyone would do something - if you were a mindless suicide twat then i dont think you'd expect to get inside the ground anyway, it is the queue or the pre/post amtch crowds that are a target.

Last night's attack was exactly that. He didn't need a ticket just waited for the crowds to come out of the exit.

Yes we know, that is exactly why we were saying it in reply to someone saying they don't mind huge queues to keep us safe at the stadium. Just pointing out the flaw in his post..

A bomber won't get into the stadium with a rucksack.

A bomber would have detonated the bomb long before trying that.

Creating queues 100's long is a perfect opportunity for a bomber to strike, especially in a fenced off area like the one opposite the SS.

The club need to rethink the whole security checks for next season.

They need an outer cordon where fans with no visible bags are allowed to walk straight into the area outside the entrances. Then they can be scanned and checked at the turnstiles. Fans with visible bags should be stopped and searched. If that will do any good with a bomber intent on exploding a bomb.

The club and stewards have to use some common sense. If I'm wearing a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, no cap, and I'm not carrying anything, do I or other fans like me need searching? No.

If I'm wearing a coat, yes. If I've got a cap on, no. You can't strap a bomb to your head. A pistol, maybe? You can't strap a bomb to your legs under your jeans. You can hide a bomb under your coat.

If checks are going to continue, there has to be some common sense, specific guide lines, and training given. As it is it's been a steward free for all, with the majority doing there own thing, and in many cases creating queues 100's long, which is exactly what a bomber is looking for.

RIP to those people who lost their lives last night.

Hopefully the Club will be getting best advice to put in place the type of effective measures you are talking about. If there isn't already an integrated approach between FA, Clubs, the police, anti terrorism and city councils there certainly should be.

Quite interesting and a little surprising to hear the stadium is designated as a place to use in the event of an emergency, which is what is happening at the moment.

There will still be queues whenever there are searched with people in the queue, people getting round the queue etc. It's unstoppable unless you have snipers who shoot anyone with a bag or large coat!!!!

Some sources say last nights bomber was wearing a suicide belt, ie strapped around him under his clothes. No backpack.

football grounds are such a easy target it makes you lose sleep at night thinking about it

first thing is the entrance and people getting a little bit hot under the collar when checks are made bags and other stuff all get checked but you can still sneak in flairs and smoke bombs and fireworks and people still think its ok to do that sort of thing ???

and next how easy is it to just walk up the the ground with the last 10 mins of the game and people rushing out the gates are open NO ticket need to just walk in and stand on the concourse just like last night they been doing there home work alright so easy nobody bats a eye. we must learn from this and next season football will change and clubs will need to start to bring in police not stewards police with guns yes i know your laughing but talk to the people mums and dads from last night who lost loved ones you want laugh then

we need armed police at stadiums and checks on everybody and even when the gates open at the end police with guns stopping anybody coming in is needed forget the price of policing football you can not put a price on life. no more easy targets in england we need a strong arm of the law even the army should play a part it

A lone wolf with a belt or bag is almost impossible to stop granted searches etc could protect inside the cordon but at the end of a match a similar attack to this on the bridge would be devastating what needs to happen is all pull together with intelligence and try to detain whilst in planning stage easier said than done I know. Thoughts with the families of last night's victims.

Possibly but that doesn't mean that nothing should be done. What's the answer??

Good points - but this will not save time or queues. Also if t shirts & no bags get you in without being checked, the bastards know what to do. Easy to hide something on your person.

I would imagine that an orderly queue entering a stadium is less of an attractive target; harder for an individual to blend in, people facing the same direction, and fewer people in a congested area. Instead, an attack at the end of a match, particularly a night match, when crowds of people are crowded into a concourse pushing in one direction would lead to greater carnage and confusion.

We don't all arrive at the game at the same time, but we generally leave en masse, and people are only thinking of getting elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if the authorities started advocating staggered leaving, but I'm not sure how that could be done practically.
