I can see sense in this one. The fee should be small and it will allow us to spend more on the other targets whilst bringing in an extremely experienced player for a season or two.

As a backup, okay. Wealth of experience. Has been one of the all time great fullbacks.

Don't think a 34 year old fullback, no matter how great he has been, can cut it as first choice in a league as fast and physical as this.

Maicon didn't work out but yea, at five mill, let's go for it.

All the dingbats that are against the signing, or even indifferent to it, need to pull their heads out of their holes. This guy will bring experience to a shakey defence, passion to a squad not overflowing with characters, and skill and flair that we have not had in the position in a long time. If we get two years out of Alves it will be an amazing result, and who knows, he could even go on longer. This will hopefully allow one of our young fullbacks to develop in this period also. I am 100% behind this transfer.

Manchester City have been told a bid of around £5m will be sufficient to persuade Juventus to sell them Dani Alves. [The Guardian]

Pep Guardiola is prepared to offer 34-year-old Alves a two-year deal as he steps up his recruitment drive for next season. [The Guardian]

I don't believe that either. These things often get lost in translation or are taken too literally. how many times have you used the phrase "never heard of them" but didn't mean it literally? Paul Merson claimed he had never heard of Yaya Toure when we signed him despite him winning the champions league, obviously he had. If ge grew up watching Ronaldo and Rivaldo playing at Barcelona he almost certainly saw them play against Sevilla. He may not have been overly familiar or cared about them but he'd have heard of them.

Anyway, enough of this. He'll be an absolutely immense signing, honestly the most excited about him than any other player we've either signed or been strongly linked with so far this summer.

Yes he literally didn't know who they were. He wrote in an article he wrote a month ago about how he lied to their scout and said he knew them when he the scout told him they wanted him. He'd never heard of them at all.

How old was cafu when he stopped playing, he was class til the end, no reason alves can't be the same

Lets have it right Dani Alves is no normal 34 year old full back!
It's not like us signing a Sagna! This would be a short term signing but it would also be us singing the best RB in my lifetime (37yr old).
Messi, Ronaldo etc get the plaudits for being the best players in the world but Alves is the equivalent of them in his role! Total freak of nature who I personally would love to see wear a City shirt!

He's good but not all so extraordinary anymore though. He's physically far behind his old self and he'll be a year older next year. I hope Pep isn't planning a season with Alves as his first choice and we still get Walker. Alves would be a great to rotate with Walker.
