The Stone Roses/Ian Brown

Is that a defo with depeche mode? Seen them about 5 or 6 times over the years, went to the last tour at the M.E.N. If they're back next year along with the roses then music will be exciting again instead of all this beep de beep and brap brap shite we have to endure.

They will definitely be about next year. The album may actually be out this year. There is a press conference scheduled for the 11th of this month in Milan I think and their website has a countdown. I went to the gig at the arena, it was fantastic. Have always wanted to go see them in Berlin and I am hoping to go next year.

They get better with age and their live shows are amazing, I went to see them at Crystal palace in 93 and the g-mex the same year, a fantastic band who never really got the credit they deserved after delivering great songs for the last 35 years.

That Crystal Palace gig is legendary. I had it on VHS. Just shows you how important image is. Depeche Mode don't get the credit they deserve in this country due to their initial image. Compare that to the Roses who can sell out football stadiums in this country due to being seen as cool, even though they have not released anything of relevance for over 20 years. Go outside the UK and Depeche Mode are global superstars due to their music where as The Stone Roses do not compare on a global scale.

I've got the crystal palace gig on dvd, was an amazing day tarnished slightly by all the goths rushing to the front to get a piece of the sisters of mercy....I got nothing against goths by the way ha ha. And that's a great comparison with the roses and you're bang on the money mate, depeche mode have done numerous albums and worked their socks off to get to where they are and rightly so, whereas the roses have done two albums and done two new singles in near enough the same time scale yet can sell out where ever they play. I love both bands and are probably in my top 5 favourites but as it stands a new album from depeche mode excites me more than a new album from the roses.

Was at Wembley last night. Took my teenage son to his first gig and we all had a great time. A few things were a bit annoying ....

No encore? First band I've ever seen that didn't play an encore. Is this usual for the Roses?

The backing vocals were at times badly out of tune. We expect this from Ian Brown but it sounded at times like Reny had a dodgy ear monitor and couldn't hear the lead vocal.

Mobile phones. Why do people pay a fortune for a ticket then spend the entire gig doing selfies and taking photos? I'm probably too old to understand this

Other than the above gripes the band sounded superb - really tight and well rehearsed. I liked the stage set and the sound was spot on.

Fair enough I suppose if you're not expecting one you're not disappointed

Wasn't there an incident in the film when Reni stormed off and refused to do an encore (I think the gig was in Europe) and the crowd were pissed off as they knew the Roses had done an encore the previous night?

Virtually no one does real encores anyway. I've been to hundreds of gigs and can probably count the number of real encores I've seen on my fingers. Used to be the case with Rainbow that you didn't know if you would get an encore or not: it depended what Blackmore thought of his performance and the audience.

Thought the Roses were good. I'm not an aficionado so only know the two studio albums and there were songs on there I would have liked to hear that weren't aired.

The staging was good and the crowd sang along like a Rod Stewart show.

Just watched 'Made of Stone'.. Not by choice but have to say really enjoyed it.

hope LG scouts down the kid that said 'fuck oasis & fuck man city'.

'Waterfall' is still a brilliant tune..
