Well we're closer than ever (even closer than when we had two RBs) and Alves still hasn't signed, so not sure it's really making any difference tbh.

Why on earth are people losing their minds over us 'releasing' our fullbacks?

They were all out of contract. Everyone with any passing interest in football knew they were out of contract.

What exactly was the alternative? Offer them all new deals until we bought replacements? What then? About £15,000,000 in wages for an additional year, on top of the wages of any new signings, that's what.

Maybe we could have just asked them all to keep quiet and pretend they still had a contract with us. I'm sure they all wouldn't have minded hanging around the training ground whilst not getting paid.

Well he sold Modric to Real Madrid for less than Cesc Fabregas went to Barcelona for, and only £2m more than Mata cost Chelsea from a Valencia that had to sell in order to stay solvent in the same summer, so that was a shit deal.

And then he sold Bale for a world record. Woah, there's no way anyone else could have managed that!!!! Any mere mortal would have just offloaded bale for 50m or something!

It's a bullshit legend built by Levy. His shit negotiating stance of "not for sale" is probably why his best CB has a buyout clause in his contact for pennies next year, and has probably cost Spurs plenty of other players.

Not to mention the players they've lost over the years because he refused to pay a tiny bit more, or suddenly reduced his offer (Willian).

As i said earlier, do you think we'll walk away if levy trys to rinse us for another £10-£15 million?

I like the cut of your jib.

I don't mate. Walker is our transfer target and he wants to leave.

Trippier is their first choice RB now.

It's just going to take patience to see who backs down first

People are just being idiots. Doesn't take a fucking genius to work out that City weren't gonna have any FBs come the end of the season, even several months ago. The idea that our bargaining strength suddenly changed a few weeks back is nonsense.

Top sales people don't do deals based on assumption fella

The most idiotic thing is Kyle Walker's valuation, squad rules and the British transfer market in general.

Ok so why stop at 15m? If you think we won't walk away why doesn't he charge us 70m

80m?

90m?

We obviously have a price, otherwise we'd have paid the higher figure MattyB referred to.

Ffs maybe I should rush down the road to the waterfront hall in Belfast and get peps take on things..
That'll be great Deano, any chance you can do it on a live cast so we can ask him as well. Hurry up or he'll be gone, oh and don't forget to say fuck off to Rory & Nesbitt.

Some extra special transfer forum nonsense gong on at the moment mate. Idiocy, mixed with a cup of flapping, a squeeze of hysteria and topped with a hint of raggishness, creates a quite astonishing batch of fuckwitterry!

I don't want to turn the Walker thread into a debate about Levy, but all you're doing is picking and choosing stats to suit your argument.

I could say he doubled his money on Yedlin, or he paid less for Dier + Ali than we did for Nolito, but things like that don't carry weight in a debate about Walker!

And I could say we got Agüero for the price he paid for Lamela.

Fact is he's not a transfer genius. He's a bang average midtable director who makes as many cock ups as anyone else and has built up a myth based on...Bale? A few long shot punts coming good?

He makes as many bad deals as anyone.

You don't understand, we're up against Levy!

We'll be lucky if we don't end up financing their £800m stadium in return for Kyle Walker-Peters now he's realised Sagna's left!

It's not so much about us releasing our fullbacks, but more a case of the fact that we allowed ourselves to get in a position where we needed to replace them all in the same season. It's pretty poor planning when anyone with half a brain could have told you we've been crying out for fullbacks on both sides for at least 2 or 3 years now. The replacements for Zaba and Clichy should really have been bought while they were still here. Buying from a position of strength is always a better idea. Add to that the fact that we basically end up walking a tightrope every season on the homegrown front, meaning that not only does everyone know that we're desperate for fullbacks, but they also know that we have to buy English.

Why would you argue that, unless you're doing it for arguments sake? And using words like "transfer genius", seems like you're trying to provoke an argument.

My point was that I could had said that "he's a master negotiator, look he managed to double his money on yedlin... etc", but I didn't as it carries no weight in a debate about Walker!

I've dealt with the bloke, I know what he's like.

But it's a forum, the whole point of the thing is to debate opinion, so I can respect yours

I simply have an issue with the massively overinflated reputation he has as a director of football, sorry.

I have no doubts he's a class A ****, though or that he negotiates in bad faith.

Well someone certainly is at Spurs. There starting 11 last season cost less than 100 million and was a lot better than Most sides with much more expensive sides. I know they've had some poor buys, but they have spent incredibly well.

He might make as many bad deals, but certainly makes a lot more good ones than most.
