Exactly. If Laporte wasn't a sign to the powers that be that no deal is done until it's signed, this should be.
Hopefully, this makes us stronger in the long run. It's not the best positive, but it's the best I've got right now.

I'd go with "But he said so". It gives it the weight such an "contract" deserves.

If Pep really is as livid as reported, how we react to this will give us an indication of how things are going, with Pep, with the finances, with our long term planning.

Are we going to scramble for some last minute player, are we going to trust a kid like Maffeo a year or two early or are we going to say fuck it and go buy someone very good like Semedo or Perreira?

If we're going as hard as people have said, it'll be the latter, which will send out a statement and certainly strengthen us to the point where people will have forgotten Dani Alves by September.

I would be pretty disappointed if we got some second rate emergency replacement in rather than trusting Maffeo though. If he's going to be loaned out it should be because we've got genuinely brilliant players ahead of him.
