I don't think so. They have lost 36 goals from their team of last year in Zlatan and Rooney. They have replaced that with a striker who scored 26. They have signed a defender who could be hit and miss but even if he is a hit does that improve them greatly? defensively they was sound last year. Similar to the defensive midfielder in Matic they have signed, struggled the last two years but could potentially give Pogba more freedom. They was massively behind last year from their strengthening I don't see what then puts them as title contenders. They didn't finish 6th from throwing the league for Europa they finished 6th for having a poor league campaign. It would be absolutely criminal if that team comes close to winning the league.

True that man.

People need to realise - the rags are a spent force. They should of gone and got a manger that plays attacking football. But they went for the status instead.

I'm looking forward to sitting back and watching them squirm this season.

A danger possibly. Contenders No. they have replaced big nose with like for like. Lost Rooney. Brought in Matic. Nothing is screaming out that they have seriously improved.

Pogba shone at Juve because the team played to his strengths.

The rags don't play to his strengths, Mou doesn't play to his strengths. PEG's game park the bus and lump it long. They will struggle to get into the top 4.

Based on the last two years, losing Rooney must be an improvement.

Jesus. Lost 36 and added 26!

True. But goals lost non the less.

I think you're overselling the loss.

Lukaku and Ibrahimovic are pretty similar in stats lat season, and Lukaku will be getting more chances I expect.

That leaves the 39 appearances of Rooney to replace his 8 goals - if they can't play Martial/Rashford/Perisic(?) more usefully to pick those up, they're really not trying. For a start, the immobile Rooney won't be stinking the midfield up, and Lukaku will make defences move more than Ibrahimovic.

Not sure I agree about the Lukaku vs Ibra line mate. I'd be more scared of big nose to be honest.

The problem united have had since bacon face left is that they don't play attacking football anymore, and thus don't create enough chances.

And that is the reason they won't make top 4 this season, and won't get the same lucky draws in the europa league either.

I meant that I think Lukaku will get more chances than Lukaku did last season.

I'd be quite happy for them to get some lucky draws in the EL again!

The teams they met in the europa were astonishing. Not sure a team has had it so easy to the final.

I shake my head in disbelief at how poor it was last year, even my old pap said as much (utd fan) but he never had much time for it tbh. The biggest result was Ajax winning by 4 at Lyon or something. No teams were really in it, in years past it got close to being as good as the CL for quality of matches and standard of play/players. The two years Atleti won it for example, not long ago and a fair few matches there that would have done the cl latter stages proud. It felt a bit weird like Leicesters season. You were waiting for the good matches and before you knew it the final was there and the whole event had been dull as dish water.

Blue tinted specs? possibly, i really do think it was a weird year that played right into utd's hands with no experienced decent teams to be seen really to give em a pasting though.

Fully agree mate. The easiest route.

Spot on... and they still stumbled into the final!

With all due respect, that sentence in itself is as deluded as anything on this forum. Their problem -and it is a problem- is Maureen himself. He does not have the mental tenacity to last a whole season without blowing a gasket somewhere along the lines. Before, he was under no pressure: the Chavs idolised him, anything he said or done was hailed as a masterstroke by the fans and the media, he was a demigod with the entire footballing world at his feet. Now fast forward a few years and look at him today: a man at odds with the rest of the world, a walking, talking time-bomb primed to go off at the slightest provocation - real or imaginary. A man whose moral compass went AWOL some time ago, and whose prickly exterior hides an ever pricklier interior.

There is zero chance of Maureen going to the end of the season (9 long, gruelling, arduous months of highs and lows) without the usual drama and histrionics that are and always will be part of his psychological make up.
Maureen is definitely on the edge of a catastrophic breakdown, and he has nobody to blame but himself. He behaves like a spoilt child, and the press lap it up and worship him like some kind of deity.

He's not special, he's just a 54 year old, eye gouging brat.

I don't understand why so many of you think they won't sweep all before them now the last piece of the jigsaw is in place.

Fully agree mate. The easiest route.

Easiest route and needed unreal luck to make to it to the final. Won in extra time against a rotated Anderlecht side and almost got knocked out by Celta Vigo had Guidetti not missed a sitter in the final minute.

The media influence is off the chart, they have turned a 6th place team into title contenders.

They've bought a defender, DM and Lukaku to replace Big nose. How have they improved? Lukaku is severely over rated. Goes missing often especially in the big games.

Instead of improving their attack and creativity, they've decided to improve their defense. Don't see them making top 4 without signing another 2 attacking/creative players.
