I agree, I don't think that we'd not be mentioning it at all ever, if there was the remotest chance he would come at a price we were willing to pay.

We may well have enquired, we may even have discussed terms he might agree to come with people on his side, but at the price required, we said not a chance are we paying that, and nothing has changed in 3 or 4 weeks.
Any chance of Bony being thrown into the mix ; )

Perhaps, but I still don't see us paying in excess of £100m for him, so a non starter really.

I agree, & ive said a few times now he'd sign for us for say £90m with silly bonus' to Monaco should we win CL etc.
City, Real & Barca will try to curb this inflation & I'd be surprised if all hadn't already agreed to not get in to PSG style bidding.
Naymar was a unique purchase in that he had a defined release clause & PSG did the math & determined the risk was worth the reward, with Mbappé that reward Vs risk just isn't there at present. He's not set the world alight like Naymar did, hes not really half the player Naymar currently is & without talent around him like he had last season then he's still an unknown. A future talent without a doubt but that takes time & investment that warrants his current form/status.
Said it before & I'll say it again, we'll go all out for this lad at a sensible price to us, & I genuinely hope we get him. Then we'll look to bring Sanchez in next Summer if Arsenal won't release him this window.

If we don't get Sanchez this window, we won't be interested in the future, he'll be too old for what we are doing as a club. He's borderline even now, so its a purely a short term fix if we get him this summer.

Technically he doesn't turn 29 until December so he'd it's not like it's years down the line.
I think we'd go for him to prove a point in all honesty plus he'd go from costing us £50m+ to £Free bar a signing on fee.

The signing on fee next summer would be ridiculous, for someone who would then (next July) be 30 at his next birthday.

Its now, or not at all, as far as I can see, so probably not at all then.

Was thinking that myself. I would also hope that by next season, either Sterling or Sane (or both) will be at a similar level to where Sanchez is currently.

Sanchez was the summer's main target, and therefore suggests Pep was not happy with the available striking options. Mbappe's bursting on to the world scene probably got us interested in him, especially as Wenger's stance made Sanchez difficult to sign.
However regardless of the positive posters on here it is looking increasingly like Sanchez might be going to PSG while I just don't think we will be getting involved with Mbappe at 150 mill +.

So we do need someone, but who?

Pep was not happy with the available striking options.
So you think Pep isn't happy with Jesus ? Can't work with Sergio, whilst having Sane, Sterling, KdB, and adding Bernardo ?

I think he thought Sanchez on top would helpful if possible, which looks unlikely now. However if he can't work with all the above, then he's not as good as he (and most of us) think he is.

News coming out that we've finally bid for Sanchez, how true it is I don't know but even if it is, the thought that Pep is 'unhappy' with his strike options is bollocks. He wants Sanchez because he's a great player, not because what he has aren't already great. Who wouldn't want to add the likes of Sanchez to their ranks.

He's 29 19th December... he'll not be 30 until December 2018. Signing on fee won't be ridiculous as we can pay more wages & it'll be a damn sight cheaper than £50-60m this window that's for sure.
But 28/29 isn't really a difference, I don't get this mentality of it's ok buying him now for £50m+ as hes only 28 but for FREE in 12 months time is crazy as he'll be 29 & too old! Makes zero sense.

Pep was not happy with our attack last year, otherwise he wouldn't bemoan missed chances after almost each game. Nor he'd be interested in spending some 150 mil on Sanchez and Mbappe if he was happy with our attack. That's the fact, but some of you just don't want to accept it because not happy with attack means Pep doesn't view Aguero in same eyes as you do and that's enough for rational thinking to stop functioning. No sane manager would be happy with our strikers last season after we lost many, many points and missed CL quarters because they were misssing sitters left, right and center.

Been saying this as well mate. Signing a player of his caliber on a free, even with a 10m signing on fee or so, at 29 would represent fantastic business. Imagine if we still win the league this year too, and then add Alexis for free.

I accept our strikers have not been as clinical as we would like. However often players performance can be related to their confidence. Both Sergio and Jesus seem over anxious. Hopefully when they feel more confident they will be finishing with their natural ability.

(It's natural to feel anxiety when the boss indicates his dissatisfaction and looks to recruit other player/s who will likely effect your game time.)

Signing a forward has been a priority for Pep since the season ended. Not sure how that tallies with the idea that he's happy with the options he has in attack but there you go.

I reckon that Jesus's injury convinced Pep that we need another striker. The Sterling-Aguero-Sane combination did well but they were clearly overworked and looked knackered. Sterling had to be rested, Sane was out on his feet towards the end of the FA cup semi final. And we've since let Kelechi go.
