This has all the makings of a deadline day transfer.

In my opinion PSG can't proceed with their bid, and if they did Mbappe would be reluctant to go there for fear of sanctions. It's not the best move for his career either. PSG are a big fish in a small pond.

Real Madrid are not interested.

The two most likely outcomes are:

  • stays at Monaco in which case we have missed the boat
  • Monaco compromise somewhat, and he goes to City.

Real Madrid are not in for him because of Ronaldo and Bale but those two are not going to continue forever. If he has another good season other clubs will come in for him, possibly including PSG.

I am a bit wary of one of the English clubs buying one/two PSG stars which might enable them to buy Mbappe. The other hurdle is that Monaco may feel they can get more by holding him for another season. That's very risky. They might be in the top 2 of French football, but in the Champions League they could easily struggle having sold so many players, and if he's not in the shop window his value will decline, especially given that his contract will be winding down.

I think he will move close to deadline day. At the moment City seems the most likely destination. If PSG sell a player, or two, that might change.

Get in there and slam dunk the deal. Simples
The Neymar deal was £200m release fee. You either pay it or you don't. Relatively simple. In this case there could be a gap of £30m between what we are prepared to pay and what Monaco think they may get. In other words there is a lot to be gained or lost by negotiation.

If Mbappe has shown a preference for PSG over us, I would be surprised if we go for him. Pep has indicated he wants players that are 100% committed. It depends what has been said.

Don't think anybody knows how he's feeling, all just paper talk...Think his family want the PSG move because it makes him the most and obviously stays in France.

There is not a viable PSG offer at he moment. I think if there was, a deal would have been done. The fact is hasn't been done suggests that City have a chance. The media has gone very quiet in regards to City's interest for a few days, but I think momentum behind the PSG move has stalled. L'Equipe describes it as an impasse. If PSG can not get over financial obstacles, and domestic rivalry between Monaco and PSG, then maybe that leaves room for City to strike a deal with Monaco. I am guessing that city's valuation of the player is some way short of what Monaco want. For all I know, City may no longer have an interest in the player. That would seem odd to me though. We haven't bought a striker, and the only thing that could force that would be if we thought there was an unbridgable gap between valuations or the player was no longer interested.

Could be...

OtOH - it strikes me that MBappe prefers PSG and that PSG are willing to pay more than us for his service. It would greatly surprise me if MBappe isn't a PSG player very shortly.

It's a pity that no-one has seen fit to translate anything other that the byline from the article.

A shame as it's quite interesting (page 2 of today's L'Equipe, opposite an equally interesting story - on page 3* - about Dembele's situation at Dortmund).

*The French may have all the fine food in the world, but they still haven't understood that a young, black** male has no place on page 3 of a daily paper).

**Calm down, I'm black. And we're happy with having big cocks and being first up on Crimewatch, OK.

It basically says that PSG have mandated Pini Zahavi to contact MBappe's representatives, but they haven't returned his calls.

They asked another 3rd party to reach out to them and, again, no contact.

Seem's to suggest that he'd prefer City or Real, but as we seem both to have baulked at Monaco's asking price / his wage demands repectively.

That leave's him with just PSG as an option at the mo', which - as the headline says - is the most difficult option (as Monaco do not want to sell to them either).

I've seen a brief translation of the article which also says that FFP sanctions are also an issue. If that's true it breaks a deal on its own unless PSG can sell a significant player(s).

The article says that whilst MBappe's people have been assured that there are no problems regarding FFP by PSG, the message from individual PSG directors seems to be that it is not feasible this summer.

Do you know if PSG can agree a deal this window that would see Mbappe loaned back to Monaco for a year so they get their man or would that option be prohibitive

To be honest, I'm losing faith in this one. Nowhere, but on this thread, you can see us being mentioned in any Mbappe calculation anymore. I guess it's all about Sanchez or some not mentioned surprise now.

Itll never stand up in court though.

You mean like all the papers were linking us to Bernardo Silva?

I would guess that would be counterproductive for PSG (get the player but pay top dollar, not have his services for 12 months, but have it entered onto this year's accounts).
