All 3 of those combined cost £17m, that hasn't been "good money" since 2004.
He has improved in team designed to be defensive but let's have this right, he shouldn't be going anywhere near our team.... it's again about more than the player but added value to squad, the same vein as rodwell, Sinclair, delph et al..
In addition to these well formulated statements I am personally concerned that so far no other top-club seem to have recognised the talent of Jonny Evans. In the time since he left United, other top clubs have bought CB's. Chelsea did it, Arsenal did it, Liverpool did it. And yet I can't recall having seen Jonny Evans being mentioned as a candidate for any of these clubs buying in the position where Evans plays. I assume he could have been acquired for a lot less than the 20+ millions being mentioned today. So why did no one else have an interest in buying him? Could it be because nobody actually thought he had the level to play for them? The biggest box he ticks, is that it's probably possible to sign him, for money we can afford, wheras we have most likely missed all the better targets due to the farting about waiting for Mbappe.
Pep has won titles with all manner of defensively challenged characters at cb over the years & some have ended up with top reputations, so there us nothing says he can't do that with Evans, who is obviously a more intelligent footballer than Otamendi, for example, but we should not be gambling on somebody of this level stepping up a level, in arguably the most important position on the pitch after goalkeeper.
The guy was a fucking bonus for all City fans, when we saw his name on Utd's teamsheet. We hoped he would play against us, & when he did, the outcome was usually positive in our favour.
Nobody can airbrush this out, because it's true
Mangala can't cut it, Tosin is an unknown quantity with 0 experience, Guardiola doesn't want to spend £70m on VVD and even if he did, the bloke might not even want to come.
It's no ones dream signing, but Evans is a definite improvement over our current back up options, and if Seeing Evans on the bench means we can also sign this Spanish LB or even Sanchez, then it's completely fine by me.
Leicester won the league with fucking Benalouane as a back up, we won it with Savic and Nastasic as back ups in the past, a worldie 4th choice CB is not a necessity and if Guardiola thinks he's got those leaderhsip qualities then even better.
I don't understand why everyone is so worked up about our 4th choice CB, who'll likely only be forced upon us if 2 CB's are injured.
Of course I've watched him at West Brom. He's done ok.
And of course playing for Manchester Utd is an entirely different matter & playing for Manchester City, in a Pep Guardiola team, is an entirely different matter again.
Surely it doesn't need me to point this out ?
Then I am really struggling to understand why he is still at West ham and no other big clubs are interested. I hope I am not missing something. It's not "can he improve" it's "he has improved".

I agree with this but then who do we target? From what club/league do we target players that will fit with Pep?
Perhaps as has been suggested elsewhere we could just coach what we already have to be better?

I would say that either Pep is a genius who can see something in Jonny Evans that nobody else could so far, or Jonny Evans is in fact playing at "his" level for clubs like WBA and Sunderland - no disrespect. If the latter is the case he seems to be the wrong player to buy for a club who aspires not only to win the Premier League, but to actually compete for the Champions League at the level of Real Madrid.
I could take this argument further by mentioning that also Barca bought CB's in the last couple of seasons, but the thought of Jonny Evans being sold to them is just ridiculous. Yet one should think that he would have been a candidate for a team which still plays (or played until very recently) the kind of football which Pep cultivated and today aspires to recreate with City. But let's leave it at that. If Jonny boy signs I will support him, and I will also be the first to acknowledge if he actually becomes a good player for us. Until then I think there is so much reason for doubt that I frankly do not understand why we would sign him.
Well we will see if we sign him how he does. One thing for certain he will be 100% concentration mode and to prove himself, he will know how quite a few city fans feel about him.
I'll just leave this here...
My favourite...
He was out of his depth against fucking MK Dons. Not good enough for this team
D'oh click on it it's a link...Well if MUFC Miles says he's shit then I guess he must be......
