The Boxing thread

I'll say it again though... A new fighter in his first ever boxing match has just gone 10 rounds with the undisputed, undefeated, legend of boxing Mayweather! He's nothing to be ashamed of & has just sent his stock soaring.

"He who laughs last... Laughs loudest"

In a carefully orchestrated exhibition bout

Huh?

I know he's 50-0 for a reason..He's an amateur style points boxer with the best defence ever, sprinkled with a very high fight IQ. Mcgregor only ever had a punchers chance and only had that punchers chance in the first few rounds. Those round came and went and the writing was on the wall. Just should give props to an amateur boxer going 10 rounds with one of the goats

Not sure McGregor deserves much credit apart from posturing to get the fight in the first place. Floyd has been well past his best for a few years and has been inactive for 2.
It was almost as if Mayweather played with him to give the audience a longer fight. A journey man pro would have beaten McGregor.

The world wanted to see the fight but I'm glad the experiment is over.

It was never going to be a tear up. McGregor for all his mouthing off is a bit more intelligent than that. It was interesting and went the way the form book expected. Mayweather is not a concussive boxer, not sure McGregor is either with the heavier gloves. If its a tear up you want have a peep at hagler v hearns . That's what it's at.

Credit for going from nothing to worth over 120mil in 4 years via self promotion

Not sure any real fight fan expected a Mayweather tear up, its not his style. However, even though McGregor edged the first couple of rounds he was so timid, throwing clawing punches instead on applying real pressure to create an opening for one clear punch, that was his one and only hope.

After 2 rounds he was only slightly more mobile than a punch bag. All hype, no substance.

Actually enjoyed the fight although Mayweather looks past his best obviously due to his age of course. As for Conor he's earned my respect and I may even watch UFC although I feel it's a bit too brutal, some achievement to go 10 rounds with Mayweather considering his background. Mayweather was in his prime so, so good his defence and counter punching was a joy to watch his fight against the late Gatti was sensational. Mayweather is the best ever for me well in my era anyway.

Not aimed at you mate but many people who watched the fight were not regular boxing fans. Takeaway the back story and the personnel and it was too one-sided to be classed as a good fight.

Agree on Mayweather, best in a generation. Never dodged a fight which is endemic in current boxing.

Yeah he tired alarmingly really early in the fight. And as you say threw nothing of note after those early rounds. Getting stopped on his feet was the best he could hope for. (And that's what he wanted I'd say regardless of his post match interview) .
