Alexis Sanchez

You seem to be less and less convinced with Pep's selections these days NN.

I think Sanchez will be excellent for City if he signs.

I don't really want him, because I'd rather have more games for Sané etc, & the kids but I understand his reasoning. I wish we had to make do, instead.

I think Pep's cb situation is completely fucking stupid , on the other hand.

Why? If he was always confident that Sanchez would arrive why would he chicken out and sign someone else?

From what Tolmie has said (as well as Sam Lee and Mullock) the club has always been confident of the Sanchez deal happening eventually.

I don't believe anyone, including Tolmie, has been that certain.

If we put all our eggs in one dificult basket, it's ridiculous imo.

I don't think we have. I recon Pep thinks we have a great squad & Sanchez is icing on the cake, hence we can aftord to do it like this

Neville I know you're quite pally with Arsene, why not get on the blower to him and see what crack is. Clock is ticking

Too optimistic. If you take a moment to look at our goal distribution last season, you wouldn't be this positive. We conceded 37 goals in 13/14 and 39 last season, scored 102 versus a mere 80. We've got Jesus to chip in maybe 15-20 goals this season but we have also lost Nolito and Kelechi. We absolutely need another 20+ goals player to win the title because we've never been the team which can get to the finish line conceding 20 goals a season. We're an attacking unit.

Sterling Sané Bernardo Silva & KDB should be enough to make up the difference.

They would be if they played against our defence.

So, we're no closer than we were 6 weeks ago?

Most observers would point out that Alexis has never looked closer to the door than yesterday afternoon, for what it's worth.

Ultimately we are closer because the window closes in a matter of days. Either Arsenal cave in or he comes on a free next year. I honestly don't see why it would be the latter, at this point.

Nope. Here's why -
1. Sterling has scored ~10 goals/season in the league all his life. I see no reason why this figure would suddenly become 20+. So same as last season.
2. Sane will get 10+ goals. So maybe a +5/6 difference over last season, but then we lost Nolito so this change can be ignored. So same as last season.
3. Bernardo also gets 10-15 goals a season. We sold Kelechi so, I'm gonna half that figure (based on past season stats). +5/7 goals this season.
4. Silva. Nothing to say here. Same as last season.
5. KdB. This one is interesting. You're probably expecting him to score 15+ goals this season right (as opposed to the paltry 5 or 6 he scored last season)? Here's a recent Dutch interview with KdB where he says he'll be playing more as a defensive mid this season - https://www.elevensports.be/video/kevin-de-bruyne-op-ohl (might be region blocked). The relevant part is this - "I haven't scored yet, but I'm playing as a defending midfielder. My role changed, but my games are good. I know what I bring to the team and what my role is. No one knows what I had to do. People think I play as an attacking midfielder, that's wrong. They see Kevin De Bruyne, attacking midfielder so he has to score and give assists. But they don't look beyond that." So yeah, you can forgot those extra goals. Also, you now know why we're not targeting a DM this season because one of Silva/KdB will always be playing like an advanced DM (to help Dinho with passing). So same as last season.

So there you go. Those players don't make up the difference. We need another goalscorer.

Good post blue. That's a shit ton of pressure to place on sane, Raz, and Bernardo and I'm not even stressed about Gabriel which isn't exactly a lock either. This'll be one hell of an interesting year if we don't land a forward.

Pretty much sums it up as I see it too.

Sanchez could be that difference.

I think that's a fair analysis. We're not lacking chances, but we are most certainly lacking enough goals to make a serious title challenge, especially when you consider how many we concede. I'm not convinced that Sanchez is enough personally. I'd like to see us bring in an additional striker. We can't be completely reliant on Jesus whilst Sergio's conversion rate dropped off a cliff last season (with little sign of any improvement this season). If we can't bring in Aubameyang then I'd like to see us look at someone like Llorente, who offers us something entirely different to the players that we already have. With the fullbacks that we've acquired it seems bizarre not to give them something to aim at.
