I definitely think we had some poor decisions against us last year but having poor decisions and concluding their is a collusion of numerous individuals to conspire against us is an extremely long stretch for me. I also believe that the majority of people are decent and honest and of all the refs which are part of PIGMOL, executives at the refs asdociation I think one would have acted as whistleblower. For example John Williams who oversaw the refs as, circa 2012 was an ex-Manchester City director. Was he biased against us? By all accounts was highly respected by the club and a thoroughly decent man.
I was always of the opinion that football as an industry was way too important to the economy to be allowed to become dogged by incompetent (at best) officiating. It wasn't that long ago that the top officials gained professional status. But over the years I have become far more cynical. You only have to look at issues in other sports such as cricket that have had match fixing issues and well publicised problems with Italian football. You have to be pretty naive in my opinion to dismiss the possibility. Football and its associated media in this country is run by executives who grew up in Surrey with Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal duvet covers. The popularity and success of these teams are seen as vital to the continued growth of the 'product'. I have seen some terrible decisions at City both before the Sheiks arrival and a very much increased frequency since his arrival. The club cast in the role as Dick Dastardly by the press cannot be seen to prosper too much, (although us being there adds to the spice). The moment that I was convinced that there is an agenda, not necessarily against City but any who challenge the established European elite was watching Barcelona v PSG and the 'amazing' turn around at the Nou Camp. There is loads of evidence. Quotes from Beckenbauer at Bayern saying the Milan clubs should be 'helped', Agent Woodward now on the UEFA board, the desperate rantings of Sebas at La Liga, and many more I cannot be bothered to recall or catalogue. But the evidence is there and rears it's head on an almost weekly basis. It's not just the games won that should be considered. It's those stats that don't tell us where and when he didn't issue a card to an opponent, issued one to us, not awarded a free kick when there was a clear foul. We might not have dropped points but it's the suspensions et al that mount up or don't mount up that can change a season. No stats to show that Player X wasn't available for a more crucial match than the one Jonny reffed. Or a competitor's Player Y should be missing the next match but goes and scores the winner. He's a placeman. The results stats don't tell the whole story.
It surely can't be too long before a referee scores against us, I can just see it now. Mane penalty, Ederson save and Moss taps in the rebound claiming he couldn't get out of the way.
