'Someone will kill a child': School run parking fears

Like some others on here, I too live on a road with a school. I could fill pages with some of the complete fuckwittery I've seen from school run parents.

Thing is, I've lived in the area a long time, and i know a good few of the parents, and they live within a few hundred yards from the school, yet the still DRIVE ffs! Get up 20 minutes earlier and WALK, most of the problems will disappear overnight!

At my daughters old school, the amount of chompers that just abandon their cars anywhere with total disregard for anyone else is mind blowing. I wouldn't mind, but there are usualy 5 or 6 empty parking bays, and if people used them, the traffic flow in and out of the car park would be fine.

One morning, some guy dropped his daughter right on the crossing, blocking the bus behind, which in turn blocked the main road in both directions. This in turn blocked the exit to the car park as nobody could get in or out. Not content with just dropping his daughter off, he then proceeded to check his phone and answer a few messages. The bus driver tooted his horn, and the bloke ignored him. When the bus driver tooted his horn for the second time the bloke pulled away sharpish, nearly running 2 kids over. The kids wouldn't have been in the road if the crossing hadn't been blocked in the first place.

Speaking to my daughter later, it turned out the kid lived less than 500m away from the school

Why does everything have to start at 9am? As someone mentioned earlier, staggering things like start of schoo', work, shops opening, appointments etc is the only solution to rush hour madness.

Fully agree. I'd be happy to start work late and finish early if it would help.

Maybe it's just where I live, but when I went to school almost everyone walked (only 15-20 minutes) and those who didn't got the bus. Hardly anyone got a lift to school.

No idea why anyone is defending that **** though, who the fuck thinks it's ok to run someone over just because they are stopping you parking somewhere where you aren't allowed to park? People seem to have got seriously self centered over the past decade or so

A parent who drove into a teacher at the school gates has been given a 10-month jail sentence.

Dramatic CCTV footage of the incident in Woking prompted you to share some of your stories and concerns about dangerous driving at school pick-up and drop-off.

I know its not supposed to be but that is quite comical like something out of Mr Bean. The teacher just sat on his bonnet for a while before he gets dumped off.

Just got back off the school run and witnessed the usual chaos on the roads. Mostly stems from people getting as near to the building as possible in their cars, and all at the same time. Me and Grandson park 5 minutes away and have a leisurely stroll in.
Without consulting the residents the school is now 3 times the size it was (fucking academies) and must be a pain for those that live there.

And there lies the answer you have some fuckwit in government who wants to save a few quid and amalgamate 3 shit schools and create one huge dump. Not for one minute do they think to themselves the practicalities of people getting their and being dropped off. Total arseholes did this at my old school in Denton,

It's ridiculous on the roads during term time, during the holiday there is literally a 10th of the traffic at 7.45am, during term time I leave at 7.15 to avoid the traffic.
I don't understand why kids have to be chauffeured to school when they live 5 mins walk away

In my first year at Gatley Primary School my mum took me on a little seat on the back of her bicycle. After that (aged 6) I was on my own. A 20 minute walk including crossing the main road near the Horse & Farrier. I used to love it, especially the walk home, and especially during conker season. The vast majority of kids did the same.
Or to put it another way, we weren't all spoilt pussies in the 1960s.

I seriously doubt today's children are demanding to be driven to school and suspect many would walk. The problem - as always - is the parents, who believe their child is above walking.

Same argument for those who take the mickey out of millennials for participation trophies, whilst ignoring the fact that it was the parents and teachers of their generation who devised and presented the trophies in the first place.

Not at all.
He nearly took out the 2 schoolboys on their bikes also.
I'd have given the clown 5 yrs!

The custodial sentence is ludicrous. Better to give the idiot 2,000 hours of clearing litter up outside that school and running a youth club until those hours are spent, or helping out in the hospital, or a hospice. Maybe seeing enough of people dying, or the injuries that result from accidents will have more of an effect than sitting on his arse watching telly in his cell.
£45k a year is what is billed for each prisoner in the UK, the prison population has increased since 1993 from 44,246 to 85,134 (30 June 2016). 1993, happens to be the year that the government floated the idea of allowing the private sector to run prisons, 1197 is when it happened.

Our judicial system is at best outdated, or at worse corrupt.

I have always said hammer the second car. these women, yes women as its rarely men, park anywhere having drove like 200 mts to a school, lazy cunts. tax all second cars at 500 quid a time and you'll soon see a drop in the school run problem.. third car make it a grand. far too many cars on the road.

whilst we are at it ticket every **** that parks on the pavement. why should a mother walk on the road cos they can't get past. selfish bone idle cunts.

Is that second car per household or person.
