I don't get this talk that it's just a short term solution.

He's not going to sign a 6 month or 1 year contract, so he's going to be on our books long after the "solution".

And who pays £20m+ for a short term solution anyway?

He's a short term third choice option and long term fourth choice option.

Maybe in the minority but every signing we make should be to challenge players already established in the first team. Evans won't do that - he isn't good enough for this team and signing players on the basis of them being squad players is how you end up with lots of deadwood.

Your not in the minority m8 and you make a good point

Ill be honest,I dint want Evans when it first came out,but if Pep thinks he can do a job,so be it.
Once he puts that shirt on,I'm right behind him,not fucked if he's played for the rags,we've had em before.

Go through the centre halves at each prem club....then ask yourselves which are available....then ask yourselves which are good enough....then ask yourselves which are home grown....then ask yourselves which have played at the highest level champions league etc....then ask yourselves which has won the Premier League...then you ask yourselves which are suited to our style...then ask yourselves which can play left side...then ask yourselves which wants to play for Pep

I am struggling to come up with to many names apart from Evans

Trust Pep see past the Rag bullshit and if he signs let's see what happens....I know if we get to the champions league final and Stones or Otta are injured and it comes down to Mangala or Evans partnering Stones or Otta (forget Kompany)...I know who I would want and it ain't the big French man

You don't see an issue with dropping close to 30m(maybe more)on someone who is 30 and is your long term solution to your 4th choice?
Given our stance on Sanchez I don't see City "dropping" £30M on JFE if we buy him it will be at an appropriate price, but everyone is still getting wound up over what is still only a rumour not fact.

No, but Ralph Milne didn't last Ferguson's tenure whereas Evans did and he expressed a fair bit of surprise when LVG binned him off so cheaply.
I tend to agree WBA got a good deal 10-12m for a guy in his mid-20s and middle-lower end of the table isn't bad, more then double that and 30 for a team looking to compete with the best in Europe, don't see the value myself.

There is alot of us that feel the same way mate!;)

No idea what the price is going to be yet but I definitely hope it'd be not much more than £20m. And again, I know it looks like I'm overly defending this transfer (when it doesn't excite me at all) but Im just shocked at how OTT the reaction has been by some and how little nous they seem to credit our board with.

I would say I think it's slightly oversimplistic to look at that as being double what West Bromwich paid for him though. £20m now buys you what £10m would have got you 4 years ago.

I just don't see the merit of judging these things in isolation when our actual management will have watched every minute he's played. Likewise, I wouldnt make a firm judgement on John Stones based on his best bits from the past three weeks.

Did you miss the previous 10 years of Jonny Fucking Evans, as well as this season ?

Look, IF Pep wants him, then of course, the fact that the guy is a genius, softens the blow of us signing a defender who has been fairly shit this season & most of the past 10 years.

Maybe Pep sees a particular quality in him & can make something out of him that suits his system.

He will have to, as the evidence suggests JFE is fucking shite.
