Burnley (A) Post Match Thread

It merely pointing out that posters are flapping like fuck that we could ONLY be 13 points clear tonight.
I know. No need for flapping.

But that refusal to accept defeat or a draw is what's won us so many late points and is partly why we are so far ahead. Look at how the rags downed tools against Spurs in the week. Contrast with how we played against Liverpool at 4-1 down. We should never be "happy" with a point.

Disappointing to draw the game from awinning position especially as that goal was coming for a long time. Issue is Aguero just offers nothing unless the ball is on a plate in the box for him now and although Sterling missed a sitter I would have thrown him up top and Diaz on for Aguero.

Oh well. Healthy lead still and no injuries.

Blimey

The no win in three mentioned above were three of the five most difficult away games left so that makes it a little less worrying.

Though as the next one is Arsenal and days after we play them in the final we really need to watch this does not become a psychological downer of losing form away from home at a crucial time.

Easier said than done though given our injuries and the number of games we are playing.

We need only to focus on one thing - getting this league won. All the talk of records and when we will win it and guards of honour are distracting. Hopefully the players don't buy into that as it can lead to distraction from taking it one game at a time.

We will win it when we win it and it likely will not be a record. So stop worrying and just play each game one after the other.

This is a point in the right direction. It could have been none and after how well we played that would have been very disappointing.

thought Burnley played well. Not anything snazzy just good defending, getting back and keeping pressure on players on or near the ball. There's nothing wrong with a long ball especially when they are going up against a defense who aren't the quickest, catch something in transition and get a quick goal. I'm not a tactical genius but their style of play today not surprised where they are in the table they'll grind out a lot of teams.

As for us, clearly missing d.Silva and Sane. Thought Kun played well, worked hard. He didn't disappear. Sterling, shit happens. He'll score more.

Not mad about this need something like this to keep focus. Not like it's a cup game and we're out.

Happy with no injuries in some ways I would have preferred this result than losing another player for a while.

Silva and Stones to return next week so that has to be a plus for us.

You would think they would prefer us to be 13 points behind.

Good petformance overall besides for a 15 minute spell in the second half where the players lost a bit of composure which resulted in the pressure Burnley put us under.

Gundogan and Silva shone in the first half, but then, with Aguero, were very quiet later on and with it went our guile.

Still a very good point in a notoriously difficult place to play. On a side note great to see Aaron Lennon playing and playing well.

Those “patches of relaxing and playing as if it were a training match” are the minutes where the players are in recovery, so they can go again, and keep it up for 95 minutes. These lads are human...honest.

That does occur but there are stretches where they become too confident and start playing passes that aren't even worthy of a simple kick about with your mates.

Our build up was at times brilliant, although we did lose a lot of control after the first 10 mins of the 2nd half. Some of the passing to evade the press and get KDB/Gundogan in space and running at them was class. But the forwards are so lacklustre right now. They are not instilling as much fear in the opponents as earlier in the season. Our big problem is we can't really rotate them.

I think we were tired and Burnley had the momentum and we were rightly okay with taking a draw today. Because if we had gone gung ho we could easily have had 0 points instead of 1. Sometimes you have to play the game as it is playing you. We did.

Indeed we did, apart from finishing & had we finished competently, the Burnley flourish would have been meaningless.

I also don't get how a team which stands in its own six yard box hoping we miss 'deserves' anything.

I don't think it's a coincidence that shit teams are all getting chances against us late in games though, we are tired & the '2nd choice' mids do not have the same dynamism as the first, so we have nobody to bring on,to really rekindle that energy. Something to look at next season, as they will all see workrate as being a possible way to nick points off us.

I think Fred is a bigger miss than Sanchez or Mahrez personally.

I agree, completely. We could have done with getting both Fred and Mahrez. Fatigue and injury are the biggest threats to our level of success this season. A season where, yet again I believe, we have more points at this stage than any English team that has gone before us. It's just not realistic not to have slip ups like today.

Managed to get to pg 20 before I realised the forum is full of bell ends slating players who have had long term injuries, kids not quite up to speed, players we have to thank for being 16 points in front and our greatest ever goal scorer who's netted 24 this year so far.
Get the fanny wipes out you'd think we lost by 4.
Fuck me this place gets worse every week. We played very well apart from wasteful finishing. Onwards and upwards, how many games before we can win the title?
Some of you lot will find something to moan about in that as well I suppose.
