Burnley (A) Post Match Thread

Thought we played some good stuff today , but we were wasteful in front of goal and we should have been out of sight by half time , not going to dig out individual displays because the team has been brilliant this season , draw at Burnley is not the end of the world , four days rest will rejuvenate the squad and hopefully Delph,Merlin,Mendy,Jesus,Stones and Sane will be returning in the next month or so , for the trophy run-in. Dropping two points will mean the Swampdwellers can see some light at the end of the tunnel which is very enjoyable , its the hope that will kill them.

first time this season we dipped maybe the bigger games coming up and the 15 points in the bag was used. very weak squad and the bench did not offer anything and we could not even fill the bench ????? 2nd half was the worst half of football this season and if not for ederson we going home with nothing and we defo took the foot of the gas

sterling will be made the scapegoat but aguero was so off it today so sterling did his best and you can only be in the right place to miss them and it happens to the best so keep your head up sterling. another point to bring up was kompany its great to see him back but the ball was not coming from back to front quick enough from him he looks so weak aswell the body muscle has dropped off and looks a shadow of the big man

so why have a big lead if we don't use it 15 points is enough to manage the rest of the season and try to keep the best players fresh for the big games even after today round of games 13 points is 5 still games united need to catch up and they have to come to the etihad. so lets not feel to down and when the big games come unlike today it will be miles away from a draw at burnley

am giving them (burnley) no credit today shocking old school football and a manager barking out orders from the touchline line (tackle him) (get stuck in) it feels like sunday league football going to burnley and the manager wanting blood. any other given day manchester city would be going home with the points and 6 or 7 goals in the bag the movement and speed from the players is truly mouth watering but the finishing today was poor

No need for doom and gloom. We dropped 2points, so what? The biggest worry is tiredness, several looked to be suffering mentally as well as physically. We just have to tough it out till injuries clear up and we can give some a rest.
Medium term, we really need a genuine striker, a mobile one. Raz is not a striker but a fox in the box when on form. Also he should play on the right only. Nor convinced that Mahrez or Sanchez would have solved the problem. Kun is a streak player and we really need a consistent guy. Lewandovski fits the bill, Jesus may do but he is so young and bound to be in and out.
Chin up, we re still well clear, it's the cups that's the worry. We are still the best, smile and have a pint!

There's nothing wrong with Guardiola's philosophy and there is nothing to change. We should have won this game well enough, but we didn't and for the same reasons as other games where we made hard work of getting a result. Our failure to put the ball in the net in sufficient numbers to make each game a cakewalk. Unfortunately, several of those players who were more than capable of sinking Burnley were 'clogged out' of today's squad and although I don't expect that to stop us winning the title, it has the potential of making our good work done so far to become much harder which has every chance of negatively impacting on our other competitions.

We are vulnerable to any Tom, Dick and "Arry who has half a chance. If the chances aren't put away at one end and we continue to concede soft goals at the other despite the mammoth amount of possession, we are jackasses. And there will be harder games than this one. I've not checked the stats but did Burnley have the mandatory maximum of one chance?

I think we were looking at a tired team today. When Stirling missed I think the whole team suffered mentally. They tried to close the game out but just invited more pressure on themselves. I am worried about the next set of games because we there is no one coming back from injury until March, then they need to get up to match fitness. We should be celebrating the eleven on the pitch today for their effort and get behind them more than ever now because hey need our help. Lets hope Silva and Stones are available for the next match and the CL match.

For my money, Aguero was shocking today, and has been for a while now, always too many touches in the opposition box for me, shoots when he can pass, passes when he can shoot, legend of our club without a doubt, but he has been well off the pace for a long time now, and no longer influences games

Did Pep mention why no Laporte ? I know he was on the bench, and hasn't been here long, but he looked good on Wednesday, so a bit surprised he didn't play any part today.

Not just today but from the Palace game we have gone back to last season stats in front of goal everyone guilty of missing chances.

Even before Sterling's embarrassing miss we didn't take opportunity or gave the wrong pass.

Also thought we didn't have that zip in midfield or that pass out from the back & is it me or does Kompany slow everything Down.

Just another 17 points will see us over the line.

I find it odd that we have a transfer window and haven’t signed anyone to cover up front. It’s ridiculous to have one forward fit for the practically 3 months of the season.

I agree mate...its going to be a long 5 weeks while we wait for Sane/Jesus! Diaz is a talented kid but not ready to be the 1st/only option off the bench every week....as mentioned in the transfer thread, the only thing that can stop us, is ourselves and the lack of depth hurt us today...we had no options when Aguero/Silva/Sterling couldnt get it done.

9 goals last month,as in 3 days ago so not for a while

Sane is the biggest miss today, he makes the team balance better, with Sane on left, Sterling on the right, it all works far more efficiently gutted for the boy, he will be missed in next few weeks,

To be fair the lad played 90 minutes only a few days ago and he hasn’t been with the club for a week yet. There was no need to put him in the team with kompany and Otamendi available.

Shocking ? Shocking is what Benteke is.
We played well but didn't kill them off and we paid the price. That's it.

I happy for you to disagree with my comments but cut out the insults.

Oh so you’re more than happy to insult the players who have worked their fucking bollocks off but don’t like it back. As the saying goes “if you’re prepared to give it out, be prepared to take it”.

Yet again after a poor result/team performance the Sergio knockers judge it safe to sneak out of their caves and have another go, already forgetting recent games.
This. Mind you one of the more prominent ones practically wrote off Spanish Dave this time last year.

Why do we need him? Why does anyone need a 30 goal per season striker, FFS?

Strangely enough, I remember the Dave knockers last year, “ his ankles are done” “ he’s only had one great game” I remember all that nonsense, not an hero for long these days are you :-)

Goal came too early(great goal though from Danilo) and we made the mistake of getting too comfortable before putting the game to bed properly, we had several chances to do it.

Thought Eddie could have done better since he was so close to it but maybe that's harsh given the pace on the ball.

Sterling doesn't need telling he has to do better with the chance he had, he looked visibly gutted sat on the bench when they equalized.

Kompany looked short of confidence but it's been so long since he's had regular football I'm not surprised if he needs a run of games before he's anywhere near his best.

2points dropped away to Burnley isn't that bad they can take points off anyone on a good day, especially at home.

It wasn't crriticism, just a question, I'll be honest I didn't expect him to play against West Brom, but a debut is probably better at home than away at Burnley.
Think Pep said he hadn't trained since the West Brom game maybe had a few things to sort out after transfer
That would make sense, don't know if he has family to bring over, but there would be plenty to arrange, there's a week to the next game now, so hopefully he'll be up to scratch by then.
