Such a shame he got injured, which unfortunately has derailed his season. Hope he gets some game time soon and we see the Stones from the early part of the season.

This is the kind of shit that we have to put up with. Sterling, Sane and Stones are three of the biggest talents we have ever had at city and all three of them, Sterling and stones in particular, are subjected to some right shite.

Yes, this was after the Wigan game, so people were angry, but in case you forgot Wigan had one chance all game and it was from a mistake by walker, who of course was suddenly not good enough...

It's completely different to Sterling as his performances have been vastly superior to Stones'. FWIW I think he'll come good, but so far He's been a 6/10 signing.

Tbf you could change Sterling in the earlier post to any of Danilo, Gundogan, or even Aguero and it would still fit.

The original point that some posters are too quick to be harsh, or emotional as one could observe, is valid

Bloody hell that's harsh - he was great before he did his hamstring.

I think his number is up. He's been so bad since coming back and really has had one purple patch in two years now.

As it stands he's our fourth choice CB, and I can see that being the case from now until end of season. How does he get in ahead of the other 3 based on their form?

The same way the other three got in. Hard work and waiting for an opportunity.

The only way he gets in is injury and even if that's the case he goes out as soon as they come back.

Guy took a year to bed in, looked immense for a few months and then has been utter dogs**t since returning. I like him and his purple patch was phenomenal but I dunno, Pep's patience will only go so far if he doesn't return to that form.

I don't know. There's no reason why Pep would bring down the axe on a player who's got such high potential. Especially considering his age and the fact there are other options in his position if needs be.

He's been patient with Gundogan, I think he'll be more than patient with Stones.

his time out of the side, will need to be patient and learn from it. Kompany's a good role-model as he's been out far longer but takes every chance he gets and just delivers.

he will be good. pep never give up on his ideas and principles. if he wanted make an english ball-playing center back he will make. pep stick with his idea of sweeper-keeper despite of criticizm from english media, stick with sterling since 2016. dinosaur pundits in english media especially former defenders want to john fail because they can't stand that young boy with pretty face can play progressive football. alpha males want laporte and stones to fail because they think defending is everything about tackles, fouls, maturity and agressiveness. they can not imagine defender with creative role. john just need to get pre-injury form. basel game is good first step.

He is still young and can still get back to his best prior to his injury but he is fourth choice now. He will get a game Wednesday and he will get plenty of game time with the amount of games we we will play and also with injuries that alway come along in a long season.

4th choice right now but I’m not worried. Can’t believe some are suggesting he’ll go.

Only 23 years old and pre injury was one of the best CBs in the league. He will eventually repeat that form. Might not be this season but it will come.

I think swings in form are to be expected in younger players. Look at Sané over the last few months - feast or famine. Stones well come good again.

I think you tend to get away with it more when an attacking player. Defenders are under the spotlight and unfortunately for him, he made too many mistakes on his return and has been dropped on the back of it. To be honest it has worked as we have looked much more solid.

He has to work hard to get back in. He will know that though.

Nothing to worry about at all he is one of 4 very good centre backs all of whom will be desperately needed, certainly with the required management of Kompany and the inevitable suspensions and injuries.

You have been against stones from day one and there's evidence to prove it. You have never wanted him to succeed, that much is very clear.

Kompany is 4th choice. His injury problems make it so, and it will take more than 2 games in a row before he has proved otherwise. Laporte is in no way ahead of stones in the pecking order, he's only just got here and hasn't really had chance to show much yet. Stones was in poor form and has been given a break. So What? Happens to everyone. You are gonna be left with egg on your face, I'm sure of that. His number is up PMSL

I think he's a bit of a confidence player - one small mistake and it affects his form for weeks.

I'm sure he'll get back to his best with Pep's support.
