Is this good news? Serious question?
Ok we won't have Aguero but alot of their 1st choice defence is missing (Gomez, Matip). Backup Klavan is also injured and winger Lallanar is out too in midfield - also Emrie Can didn't train either with an ongoing back issue and is rated doubtful.

Intriguing contest all over the pitch. Most previews are looking at the XI's and the last meeting. However a glaring statistic for me is who hasn't started that last fixture.

For us:
Kompany.. seems a shoe in. But against pace? His recovery v Aubameyang might just have won his place in the XI.
For them:
Van Dijk.. he's a unit and a threat on set pieces (hence why Laporte might be a Pep surprise at LB if fit - to back up Ota/Vincent) - he did well on two set pieces for Southampton and our CB's were.. Vincent and Ota. He'd also not let Aguero score on 3 occasions he faced him for Southampton.
Trent Arnold - Where the game could be won easily if Sane is on his best form. He was present in the 5-0. Lost them the game v United. And was in the side that conceded 3 v West Brom and Watford.
Milner... been sub, but their fans think due to Can injury he's going to start. Whilst we know his quality, we also know he's a bout 3 levels below our midfield

The 1st game:
Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Danilo, Mendy, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva, Jesús, Aguero
Mignolet; Trent, Matip, Klavan, Moreno, Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum, Salah, Mané, Firmino

The second game:
Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Sane, Sterling, Aguero
Karius, Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Robertson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Can, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.

The 3rd - and likely line-ups:
Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Otamendi, Danilo, Fernandinho. De Bruyne, Silva, Sane, Jesus, Sterling
Karius, Trent-Arnold, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Can't remember being this up for a game in ages. So funny we could win the league on Saturday and no one is even thinking about it

In the days between Newcastle away and QPR at home I thought about nothing other than potentially winning the league

I think he's playing a back 4 of Walker, Kompany, Otamendi and Laporte. Everton was the test at LB for Laporte and it worked a treat:

We need players who can have the ball glued to their feet under pressure for this one. That's why i think Bernardo will play.

Pep does have form for throwing in a curve ball when the chips are down in this competition, with various degrees of success?

There was infamous semi against Madrid at the Bernabeu where he played Messi as a false nine and they didn't know who the hell should pick him up, culminating in the fantastic run and winning goal.

Bayern's game against Barca at the Nou Camp was another, when he essentially went three at the back and didn't mark Messi.

Pep got a lot of stick when Messi finally made Boateng look like a sack of spuds, but the plan was working.

Bayern had chances in the first half. Pep's Bayern also created against Atletico Madrid.

At this level, more than anywhere else, if we take our chances, we will stand a fantastic chance of going all the way.

That last statement by pep could lead to an interesting pre match thread when the teams are announced! Lol

I gave up guessing months ago.

Trust in Pep is my motto.

That is my choice as well - the dickheads in the crowd get inside his head very easily and we cannot afford to pay with 10 men.
If Pep doesn't pick Raheem it will be because of tactical/pattern of play reasons. I cannot see Pep leaving him out because of a few recent Anfield performances. Pep didn't join us looking for players to leave out, he'll see it as his job to get the best out of Raheem. That's why he's a coach (the best) and we're fans.

Yeah, didn't realise that he hasn't played since the Wigan game where he got sent off. Hard to imagine him coming straight back into a game of this magnitude after a lengthy absence.
If he’s fit enough for the bench he could a useful option if we want to see out the game. Start with Laporte at left back and then switch to a back 3/5 with Laporte at centre back and Delph at full back.

But I agree, can’t see him starting

If Raheem starts getting left out at Anfield because of historical (short historical) performances it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
