United (H) Post Match Thread

Still annoyed this morning. Missed opportunity on a number of fronts.

Don't get the exclusion of our best players for one of the most important games of the season.

Pull yourselves together - yes it hurts, it stings, seeing the smiles on those guys faces, but it's all about Tuesday now, overhauling a 3-0 deficit and pushing on in that competition, establishing a new era of love for European football at the club - he gambled with a weakened side but we haven't yet seen how that gamble will turn out - let's judge after Tuesday - BRING IT ON!

Feels like the rest of the season is a bit of an anti climax now. Fed up and just want it over. Maybe I'll feel different in a few days. We have been humiliated twice now by the two biggest scum clubs in the league who will still be laughing at us when we eventually stumble over the line.
We now go into this match against the mickey mousers with our heads down having blown our chance to win the league against our biggest rivals.

Given we all know what a perfectionist Pep is, he certainly wouldnt have been happy at half time, did you see his reactions to the Sterling misses?

We should have started a derby, at home, for a potential title winning game, with a striker on the pitch.

That is purely hindsight. If sterling and Gundog had taken their chances and we saw the game out 5-0, would Pep still have gotten it wrong?

We were 2-0 up, should have scored more and they were chasing shadows for 45 mins. The team he selected was justified IMO. He should have changed things when we started to switch off I would agree.

I think Pep plays sterling out of chaos theory - you really don't know, and even sterling doesn't know how it will go. What you do know is that you wouldn't put money on him hitting a farmstead never mind the barn door.

Atmosphere..
Close of first half superb, crowd buzzing all is well..
Second half starts. Half empty stadium, almost silence, nobody seems interested. Too busy stuffing their faces and guzzling their pints to be interested. That tunnel club needs ripping down. Coming out to that flat atmosphere like that surely can't inspire the players!

No we weren't, but not because Kun was on the bench but because those guilt edge chances didn't even force a save.
From players who have probably been deemed from a younger age not good enough at finishing to be a striker so they’re just a winger or “forward” or attacking midfielder. You buy strikers at football clubs to score goals. We had four under Mancini, four under Pellegrini, now we have one plus a young kid under Pep. Burnley even have four strikers. Yesterday, if he’s rotating the team, he can play the third choice striker from the squad if he wants to “rest” (why Jesus needs a rest I’ll never know!) players, but we don’t have one. Instead we’re relying on players who shin and scuff shots to score goals - and he didn’t score the chances he got.

Can't agree at all. That's was not our strongest team selection, and I'll reiterate, it was a home derby against Utd and a potential title wining game. It should have been our strongest side and it wasn't Simple as that.

the spurs game is going to be harder playing like we are and these rag fuckers ain't going to lose to fucking west Brom.we need to get our head's sorted and quick

Feel like we were mugged yesterday, no idea how the hell we lost that game. Feel proper flat today, hopefully by Tuesday we can all get up for it and re create what was an absolute buzzing atmosphere pre game and in the first half.

Just watched the first half, how City weren't out of sight by half-time beggars belief. Criticism of Pep is OTT I feel. He did his job, put out a team to dominate the game and create clear chances which should have resulted in at least a 4 goal lead at HT. Who's to say Aguero would have got in the position Sterling was in to take those chances? Not seen the 2nd half yet but imagine the players subconsciously eased off a bit starting to think it was almost won and looking ahead to Tuesday. Not really excusable but understandable.

Beating the rags to win the title would be great for the fans and would make the title all the sweeter but in the bigger picture its all about lording it over them a bit more. The title will be won regardless. 100%.

Cant forget that Pep's bosses will be prioritising CL performance as key for his time at City. What if some brilliance from DeBruyne late in the game helps us get through to the semis?

Where Pep went most wrong I feel was the game at Anfield where he hedged his bets. Why not just have a wild shootout with Liverpool? If its another 4-3 at least you've got some away goals. Be a bit more savvy for the home leg.

When you watch the 2nd half, you will see where he made his real mistake yesterday, not noticing that all of a sudden our midfield were being overrun, our defenders were losing composure and the legs looking leggy. His subs were 15 minutes too late.

I dont think anyone is questioning the 1st half mate but for me the team selection showed lack of intent, it sent a signal to the players/fans that this game didnt have the same importance to him as it did to us(the fans). No surprise, we switched off in the 2nd half, as from the boss down we were thinking about Tuesday. Yes, we played some wonderful football in the first 45mins but that wasnt because Pep had us setup to win. His first thought was putting out a weakened side and if we could still play well/win, that would be a bonus....it was clear that the Number 1 priority was not to put out the best team possible, to put us in the best position to win against the rags. We played that 2nd half as if our hearts/minds werent 100% committed to win it and clearly Pep felt the same way otherwise he would have setup differently.

Spot on. Dunno if you were at game yesterday but I felt like there was no atmosphere from the ko second half, it was flat even before they scored. I’m not one to usually bemoan stuff like that but yesterday given the context it was very poor.

Just started watching it back and what’s already made it worse is that for gundogs goal Martin Tyler got so excited it’s made absolutely f’ing furious that we let that game slip away from us!

We have a problem with the system (feels crazy to say that after the season we have had) in that when teams press us, we lose the ball and they break (or play a long ball) we are absolutely wide open at the back. Something that really hasn't been tested all that much this season, until the last week (and the previous time we played Liverpool), is our ability to effectively beat a committed press usually just for a few minutes - and, quite clearly, we are shit at it.

We seem surprised by it, then panic, and then lose any semblance of shape until the ball hits the net. If we just lose the ball through a sloppy pass or good interception everyone switches on to win it back, if we lose the ball through pressure something very different seems to happen in their minds. Definitely a mentality thing for me, and definitely something we need to fix if we want to fulfill this team's true potential.

Still fucking miles better than them, clearly, despite the result.
Spot on with this Salford , agree with it 100%
