United (H) Post Match Thread

Fuck me you would think we just got relegated and lost a final all in one go reading some posts on here.
We are the champions elect, we are 6pts from glory, we have 6 games left to play, why is everyone having a meltdown?
So what we didn't or we won't be breaking records, football isn't about being the holder of those things, it's about getting your name on the trophies.
The tail end of the season is all about getting points on the board by any which way you can, yes we have been sublime and breathtaking but sometimes you need to eek out results.
We lost the battle this week but will win the war in the end.

was season ticket holder at Maine Rd buddy....we had many reasons to vent back then! should never question a fans support just because they like to vent now and again! 2 of the biggest, most important games of the season and we fell short, think we are allowed alittle vent!;)

Right ok....

Personally I think Pep got it right yesterday. I can’t argue with those City fans who believe that we should have played our strongest 11 and won the league/ derby making it a night to remember- the emotions involved in that would have been huge. All that said Pep will not be judged on winning the derby or if we win it early. Rather than getting tied up in the emotions of derby day or winning it in such dramatic circumstances, Pep has been ruthlessly cold and calculated. He obviously believes that the league is won, as does nearly everyone (we should get 2 wins from Huddersfield, Brighton et al) and therefore the priority has to be the champions league on Tuesday, which is why we got the team selection we did yesterday.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Pep felt that the team could still win, and with 2 missed penalties, 2 sterling chances, 2 Gundogan chances we really should have won. As for making changes earlier, I also think Pep kept it as it was predominantly to see who had the bottle for next season. He learnt lots yesterday about the players and he will use it to base his decisions for next seasons transfers.

Of course he wanted to win but for me his team selection shows that he firmly believes that the Liverpool game on Tuesday is realistic and he will be emensely confident we can do it. I know some will believe (with their hearts) that we should have gone for it yesterday, but for me Peps ruthless cold, calculated and unemotional decisions just go to demonstrate further his single minded attitude to winning everything and that no external pressures will influence his decisions.

As a side note, please can people (at the game in particular) stop having go at our players, having your own opinion is fine but when that opinion impacts on the performance of our players on the pitch then you need to stfu.. there were hundreds around me shouting abuse at sterling yesterday... it doesn’t help him or us. One particular young lady was giving it large about Sane, saying that he’s shit. My god, the guy will probably be in the team of the year! Rant over, just think that we need to support all of those who wear the blue shirt.

I'm still fuming after that total shit show. Absolutely embarrassing capitulation and shows a total lack of bottle in 5 or 6 players. As much as it pains me I include some club deities in that.

I was pretty well set up before the game began for a reverse. By HT I was in muted celebratory mode. By FT I had come to terms with another example of the curse of the two goal lead. I sat in Blue car park fuming at Atkinson trying to pass that performance off as refereeing. This morning I am well and truly pissed off with shitty finishing, shitty defending and, worst of all, shitty refereeing!
totally agree im old enough to remember the bad days but appreciate the good but realising its only a game of football in the grand scheme of things.but I too am still pissed off with the misses and shitty reffing and the wait in the blue carpark listening to that twat on 5 live trying to slag pep and listening to the rag callers gleefully agreeing despite being 13 points behind.fuck em were going on to great things.

Some people on here just love to complain. The same people moaning about the team selection would be kicking off if the players looked tired on Tuesday night. There's always some people who make it so the manager just can't win unless we win every game 4-0. Now, after witnessing the geniuses of Alan Ball, Frank Clark, Stuart Pearce, Mark Hughes we have the highest regarded manager on the planet and people are still moaning about him.
Spot on pal, some absolute pricks who don't appreciate the superb football that will culminate in winning two trophies, who would they want as Manager? How anyone can slag Pep off is unbelievable, Allardyce, PEG, Wenger anyone? Come on here and if you don't like Pep state who you would have and be prepared to be laughed at.

No one has said anything about getting rid of Pep. His decisions against Liverpool and the rags yesterday are being scrutinised that is all.

Haha! I stuck on a CD of Maria Callas! I wasn't gonna listen to anything from the RDAHMeedya! I was back in flunter all the way home. It's when I got home and this morning that yesterday is beginning to sink in. We can accommodate the pantomime in defence, and the glaring misses up front, but how is the foul on Sergio waved away?

Everybody is frustrated at yesterday's game, we as fans saw an opportunity to win the title in the perfect way at home against the scum , the management team looked at it in a different way trying to go for the hail Mary shot on Tuesday evening knowing that the league can still be done easily. I know it's a cliche but I was always taught to get the work done as soon as possible, plenty of time to rest after the job is done and that's what annoys me . We could have gone into Tuesdays game as Prem champions rolled the dice and see what happens, as it is we go into the game on the back of two defeats and not Prem champs cos we will do that another day , when the prize is in front of you, you take it, that's what annoys me the fact that that we are not Prem champs this morning when it was there for the taking .

That's OK, but they don't "scrutinise" his decisions in the games when we win in style, they come on here to moan when we don't win, calling Pep a "daft twat" is an absolute disgrace and I can tell you now if that was said in my local he would be on very thin ice.

Ok, we're all in shock and we don't get much practice at facing sustained pressure, but can we be expected to criticise our team when Sergio almost has knee ripped out ? Liverpool did a number on us (fair enough), but even then the ref screwed us over. Roll on VAR !!!
We don’t get much practice at facing sustained pressure, but we should be capable of defending set pieces and crosses. United didn't have the ball enough yesterday to sustain pressure on us. They had 15 minutes where they created 3 chances.

The ref was awful, but we should have been out of sight in the first half. Then, definitely for their second and third goals they were absolutely free. No marking, no challenge and nobody trying to get in the way.

Young’s foul on Sergio was a disgrace. It was a blatant penalty and anywhere else on the pitch he’d get pulled up for it. The ref bottled that and a few other decisions. Sterling had a defender on his back in the first half and it was waved away.

But, my concern is that they had 4 chances yesterday and scored 3 goals. That’s just not good enough at any level of football. I don’t want to criticise the team, we’ve been superb this year. We capitulated yesterday because we thought the game was won. We took our foot off the gas and panicked when they scored. We didn’t try to change the intensity, we didn’t make subs until we were behind and we were very guilty of not putting the game to bed when they were on the ropes first half.

People are letting off steam and some are going overboard.

What is there to criticise when he fields the best team and we win in style?

People are criticising that when it really mattered in the two biggest games of the season his decisions were part of why we came up short.

Not sure I'll be able to watch sunday supplement this morning! ha! Couldnt take 90minutes of the press kissing rags arse!! he!

Gutted. It’s always hard losing to them, but there was a different edge to this one. The desperation to get over the line and doing so by beating them. Can’t explain what happened to us second half. We just seemed unable to respond to United upping the ante. At the end of the day it isn’t going to stop our march to the title and that comes before anything!

That is a fans blinkered view though (we all wanted to win it against the rags) and if we are all honest, at half time we thought we were going to do that and in some style to boot. He cannot be blamed for the team selection, eyebrows can be raised at the timeliness of his subs though when players started to switch off.

Blinkered? Really?

My point is he should have played the strongest team and he didn’t. Can you argue with that statement?

The first half proved we were good enough, the second half was defensively not good enough but down to the players, not the Manager. The Dippers rested and brought on players against Everton yesterday and drew in a boring game, we lost, but, come Tuesday we can go at full tilt to progress in the CL, it's a tall order but if we do it how many of the moaning Minnie's will be on this site?
