Rudd quits

At what price level is housing considered "affordable"? For those millions on zero hour contracts, or the national minimum wage, even a 50% cut in the average house price would not qualify for a mortgage.
"Vested interest" is a broad church, on one side you have those who gain financially by ever-increasing property costs i.e. land-bank owners and their share-holders, landlords, builders, recipients of inherited property and estate agents. On the other side, who else has a vested interest in pushing housing costs higher, as the article
insinuates, who and why? No tory housing minister would contemplate "rocking the boat" by actually causing a lowering of house prices, let alone surviving such a reversal of historic tory policy. Affordable adequate housing is so fundamental to a modern country it should be estranged from party politics, not a bargaining chip, same goes for health and education. Sadly our fptp system ensures it will never happen

I have said before this is the big question that cannot be answered .............. no party can go into an election with a "fix " because of the effect it would truly have on housing values. If you think an awful lot of people have not only the emotional attachment to their home they have the equity built up as their "pension" or using it as security on loans for flash cars, holidays or extension or even the Bank of Mum and Dad helping their offspring to buy equally unaffordable housing. Just imagine for a moment there was a plan to rectify the home shortage in Parliament term ( impossible I know but bear with me ) who in the above circumstances would vote for said party?

Time after time up and down the country if people are asked whats important to them they will say affordable homes for their children to buy like they have - not rent. If they were told don't worry we will sort that - it will mean your road/village/town will have new estates built all over them they suddenly have a change of heart realising the equity issues they could face never mind spoiled views or greenbelt thrown into the mix too. Its suddenly the case that they want the affordable housing for the kids but... hey there's another village down the road...they have a car after all ...not that far for them to travel..........its human nature.

A very Tory decision to give the job to a minority in the hope it’ll all blow over by doing so.

Are you suggesting he's only got the job because of his ethnicity and do you understand how that could be construed as racist?

He's an elected MP - he is a UK citizen - his background/colour/religion have no baring on him as a person or his ability to do the job - the former is just fact the latter will be decided by his performance ..... he just needs to learn what the truth is and speak it when answering questions to a house of commons committee

Maybe he was the best person for the job?

Lets hope so. I am a pro Corbyn Labour voter and even I find it distasteful bringing his ethnicity into things - if he fucks up it will be because he turns out to be crap at his job not coz his parents came to the UK from Pakistan

I agree.

I made the comment because because it would be a very Tory ‘quick fix’ thing to do. Dravid is a man with Thatcherite principles, and it will be interesting to see how he tries to put all the fires out. He’s another rising start in the party like Rudd was.

So soon?

She knew she didn’t know, then knew other people did know and they in the know, thought she knew, then she said she didn’t know what they knew, or that they knew it, knowing they knew all the time. She knows now, but never knew then what she now knows she should have known all along, even when she never knew. Which she did actually know. Which everybody knew.
