Brandon Lewis his predecessor for one - I though Sajid did a far superior job. He also comes from very working class roots in Rochdale - if I am not mistaken his father was a bus driver and he told me an anecdote on one of the occasions i met him that his mother got hugely excited when he met Deidre off coronation street which he found rather amusing. He will do a great job. He also gave up a very successful career in finance to pursue politics. He is a very decent man.

Obviously. If it wasn't for his tireless work the housing market would give an impression of being totally unregulated and homelessness might be a problem. We are blessed to have such a such a kind and brilliant person bravely bringing the "developer cartel" to order. Next PM ? .... ffs

I don't doubt he is all the things you state, but his character and upbringing, fascinating as they may be, are not the issue.

Well the 4 billion pound home building fund is not a bad start. His stewardship of the PRS build for Rent schemes has been excellent and his ongoing campaigning for affordable homes and fair Section 106 contributions for those "Greedy developers" should certainly be commended. He has also cut through huge amounts of Red Tape which Homes England used to be renowned for to allow the small developers and builders access to funding to help solve our housing crisis. I could go on. The start of his recent speech is all pretty much fact.

Half an hour ago, the official figures were published showing that the number of new homes in England increased by more than 217,000 last year.

That represents the highest level of net additions since the depths of the recession, and it’s the first time in almost a decade that the 200,000 milestone has been reached.

Yesterday, the Housing Minister Alok Sharma, he signed the papers that will allow housing associations to be reclassified as private sector organisations.

Freed from the shackles of public sector bureaucracy, associations will be able to concentrate on their core, crucial mission – building homes.

Later this morning, the Prime Minister will be in north London meeting with families living in new, high-quality social housing.

They’re just some of the families to benefit from last year’s 27% rise in the number of new affordable homes.

And they’ll soon be joined by many more thanks to the £9 billion that we’re investing in affordable housing.

Now, all that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Because this is a government that is getting things done.

A government of deeds, not words.

We’ve doubled the housing budget to deliver a million more homes, including hundreds of thousands of affordable ones.

We have reformed planning rules, leading to record levels of planning permissions being granted.

We have fought bureaucratic inertia and vested interests and we have freed up unprecedented levels of public sector land.

We’re providing hundreds of millions of pounds of finance for small and innovative builders to accelerate construction speeds.

And tens of thousands of derelict homes are being brought back into use…

The list goes on and on.

So yes, we’ve done a lot.

Do you not think that is commendable? Which bits of his stewardship do you not think have been a success? I would hazard you haven't a fucking clue and just because he wears blue you think it ok to criticize. In fact I would not hazard - I am certain of it.
