Jorginho

True but Jorginho isn't exactly a natural lynchpin DM type, if we want a DM we could look at Fabinho, he is more of a natural DM and probably wouldn't cost as much as Jorginho, we could also try to get ahead of Juve and snap up Can for free. The midfield is solid and doesn't need much tweaking. We could also plan for the future, get Claudio Gomes for a measly fee and leave it up to Pep to mould him into his perfect Busquet type DM in about a year or two. The need for a new DM isn't exactly as urgent as some here make it seem, Dinho still has at least 2 years in him, this Jorginho obsession could turn out to be another DDR transfer fiasco, its always a problem dealing with the Italians, Levy is a joke compared to that profiteering bastard De Laurentis.
I agree with Can 100%, however CDM is our most worrying concern.

Let's say (heaven forbid) that Dinho got injured, that would leave us reliant on Gundog. Now with his injury record, would you want just him as our only option for an extended period?

There's also Delph too who Pep obviously doesn't fancy as a CM, so after a 33 year old Dinho with International commitments, who then?

Like I said, Can is an excellent shout on a free & he's still only 24 & has 3 years PL experience behind him & he can play as a CB if needed. Can makes perfect sense on all levels, but no CDM at all sounds like the risk we took at the start of this season with one LB. If not for Delph, that could have spectacularly blown up in our faces mate.

Is it really worth the risk not reinforcing this area for next season?

For a free transfer, why not? at least we wouldn't be spending 53m for a player we don't need. Mario is a proven goal scorer, with PL experience, I don't see what the problem is, you might be a fan of Jorginho, I am not.

He's not a proven goalscorer though. He did well here and at Nice but was dreadful at the bin dippers and at Milan.

I like to think he'd do well but he could easily just pull a Bony and not get the game time to be effective.

Free transfer or not,he would never get in this team with Pep in charge. The guy has no idea about work ethics for any team.
Once bitten twice shy and I will bet with anyone it will never ever happen again ... he will never re- sign for City.

He wouldn't have to join the midfield, he can be the big target man upfront, we have Sane, Sterling, Silva, KDB and Walker to provide assists and crosses, Balo could easily get 20+ goals, he is tall, strong and would offer a different dimension to our pocket size men upfront.

would rather have Dzeko than the loony one

Di marzio saying that we have made an official approach for Jorginho but are way off the valuation as Napoli want €60m! Not sure how much we think he’s worth in this market?

"What do we need in the summer Pep?"

"A press proof technician to sit at the base of midfield and dictate play Txiki"

"Right, I'll enquire about Can and Balotelli so"

Lol why do we never just pay the damn fee upfront and finish it quickly. We always haggle for months only to end up paying it anyways.

You're not wrong and we really fucked it up last summer by dragging out the walker negotiations then opening the door for Monaco to charge us way more for Bendy. Still worth every penny but I do think we hurt ourselves by taking too long.

Busquets has time to control a game in La Liga & in the CL, in the PL opposition players would be on him like flies on shit. This isn't to say we should give away style, for physicality, but as we found with Yaya, putting a player with a lack of effervecent physicality in a DM position was a recipe for disaster.

When Pellegrini was manager, we were constantly exposed because of his belief a ball playing Yaya could withstand the rigours of being a PL defensive midfielder in a central midfield 2. Pep saw this issue before he came here & immediately changed it when he arrived, with the result being less game time for Yaya.

I suppose the question I'm asking is has Jorginho got the physical assets for the PL & has Fred got the passing ability required for Pep's Manchester City?

How could you get the analysis so wrong?

I'm sure that the way the negotiations seems to play out in public are vastly different from the actual facts

Take those glasses off !
Stop dreaming ... you will never ever see him in a City shirt again. EVER !!!

Price deemed to high :/

Seems the going rate for a international DM....not sure why we would think he'd be any less.....The market has gone up again since last summer...I'd be surprised if players like Fred, Jorginho, Fabinho dont all have a starting price of around 40-50mil...

Whys is that the going rate for a DM? What other DMs have gone for that, or near that?

Agree, it's a good price for a midfield player of this level and age on the current market. 28 yo Matic was sold for £40m after all...
City have bought 50m and 57m CBs, and Jorginho is a far more rare player. There aren't any real alternatives to him on the market, only Weigl whose form's been disastrous after the injury. Fred, Fabinho, Ndombele are completely different players.
Didn’t Napoli have an interest in zinchenko?
City tried to sell or loan him out last summer, but Sarri have reportedly vetoed the [almost agreed] loan+buy deal.

Matic to the rags for 40mil? and I think all 3 I mentioned are better.....when international CB's and FB's are going for 50+ mil, I just wouldnt expect to pay any less for an international midfielder...Someone like Jorginho is not 20/21 years old with lots of development ahead of him....We would be buying him at his peak and that costs....
