I do dissagree, in fact most pundits would . one swallow doesn't make a summer.
Where would you send him? You have to balance a number of factors, as well as the quality of the domestic league consider the stature of the club, is it involved in Europe, what is the level of coaching and managerial guidance. Celtic tick most of these boxes I think.
My view is that the vast majority of the players we send out on loan won't return to pull on the shirt. The exception would be a player who can hold down a regular spot and excel in the PL or with a top European team. I will be very interested to see what happens next year with Foden and Diaz?

You may dissagree but its a daft point to make because its almost impossible to rate how players will perform coming from any league. All I ever hear is 'yeah but its the eriedivisie/primera/ligue1/championship'. The scottish league has its success stories and its failures just like any other. Last I checked VVD was doing okay.
If a good player moves there, he doesn't become a bad player, but it's a year wasted because now we don't know if he's ready to play Premier League football.

I have a feeling he may come back to haunt us, but players like Diaz and Foden are now ahead of him, and it's his own fault.

Whereas you're saying we would know that if we had loaned him to NAC or Girona or bloody new york?

The only way to know if a player is ready to play in the premier league is for them to play in the premier league. Really don't understand why the scottish league is getting such a pasting for being a poor loan destination when we have had far more unsuccesful loans in holland and spain. At least Roberts got to play some football. Douglas Luiz and Aleix have probably forgotten what a bloody ball looks like.

Girona yes. It’s the fucking Spanish first division.

Loaning Roberts to the Scottish League does us a favour if we are using as a make weight because as people have stated the league makes decent players look good and good players look great

The first loan to Celtic made sense, the second was stupid, he had offers in the premier league last season to test himself and he took the easy option.

How dare you use the "Q" word in the wrong thread...

Think he'll be a really good addition.

Yeah its really worked wonders for... err.. oh its been almost universally shite for all our loanees there. Douglas Luiz and Aleix didn't get a sniff and we bought Kayode to help them out and they still couldn't even be bothered to play him.

Only Maffeo had a decent time and despite performing he was still deemed not good enough.

It doesn't matter how good the division is, what matters is they play proper football week in week out. That is the only way young players improve.

Kayode was dreadful, and Douglas Luiz was horrendous every time they played. Machin was right not to play them, as they were nowhere near good enough for La Liga. I was a little bit surprised that Garcia got so little playing time though, cause he looked pretty good when I saw him play for them

Fair enough but I think that still supports my argument, no point whatsoever in loaning players to a league if they are going to be deemed not even good enough to get 300 minutes. Scotland is crap, I'm not disputing that I'm just saying its a good loan destination. If Aleix had gone there he would have been one of the best central midfielders in the league, got 50 games under his belt and bags of confidence. Instead he's probably wondering what the point was in leaving Villareal if he's still sitting on a spanish bench playing pocket snooker.

The biggest problem for me is that we didn't seem to think these loans through. Girona play with 2 CMs. One is the captain, Granell, the other is the best player, Pons. They were never going to get dropped or replaced by Costa or Garcia, not unless they were instantly world class.

So we set them up for failure.

Douglas Luiz wasnt that bad when he would come on. It has to be difficult only playing the last 10 or so minutes once a week and starting the odd game every couple of months. But I agree that the Girona connection did us no favors this year. Hopefully soon they're able to have a coach that plays a similar style and we do our part of sending them players who can get the job done.

And?

The point was its poor standard, playing against the fucking jokers north of the border.

There’s literally no point as Roberts has shown.
