Riyad Mahrez

A lot of good points TH but do you think the club and Pep will stand for being messed about much longer?

Soriano is a pretty pig-headed negotiator. With the transfer window closing much sooner, I would be surprised if Mahrez situation was allowed to drag out much longer.

Pep doesn't issue ultimatums on players, they either get done or they don't.

I'm curious about this fee that he is supposed to be expecting to receive from Leicester.
Why would they owe him anything if he had put in a transfer request? Unless he never actually did.

We just watch and wait with confidence in our team.

No one knows what city are up to, but we are in a fabulous position with the best people in football assessing the situation. I'd be very happy to KO the season with what we have. The footballing issues to deal with in the squad are:

1) Replacing Yaya - cover for 33yr old Fernandinho

2) Long term cover for Aguero. Jesus maybe affected positively or negatively by Brazil's World Cup. At the moment it does not look good as Neymar does not look fit, and rest of Brazil team is poor. This could develop into an issue for us.

I would wait for Leicester to panic, when they realise City are not going to pay £80m - £90m, or I'd look to bolster City's financial position i.e. do nothing so that when an Mbappe/Bale type player becomes available, we can bid for them. In past we've spent money on 2nd tier players in this situation, and as a result found it impossible to bid for the very best players when they become available. There are interesting situations at Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG for example
Totally agree. We do need long-term replacements for Ferdy and Sergio. Bernardo will be brilliant moving forward on the right side or number 10. Sergio will play less games next year (still brilliantly of course). My gut feeling is that City will not allow themselves to be wound up by Leicester or Kia Joorabchian. We are strong enough to tell clubs to "take it or leave it" these days. We also have Phil Foden (and possibly Diaz) who can cover the left and right sides.

He withdrew it at the end of the season, so now I presume he's entitled to the "loyalty bonus" or "cut of the fee" or however else it's worded in the contracts. I'd imagine the clubs view is you can swivel for that sunshine after going missing.

Mahrez and Man City. Minor update. Those involved say it happens. There are two prices. One with Roberts in. One without Roberts. Think Roberts still in it all the same.

From Alan Nixon

Nixon was the first one to break the story that we were in for Mahrez in January.

75 fucking million quid! Mahrez? What a joke! No thanks.
You paid near enough £60m for an inexperienced centre back with zero experience in the league and £50m for full backs. People can go on about Man City pay more for defenders all they want, but attacking talent, especially talent proven in this league, costs more. When you consider what we're quoted for players... £15m for Roberts, £25m for Iheanacho, £25m for Maddison, then £75m is going to become the ball park figure for that sort of player I'm afraid.

Maybe in your world over there but not here. I say forget it and move on.

I think the inflated price they paid for Kelechi could also be a factor.
Inflated price? £25m for a 21 year old international striker that was capable of hitting double digits at 18? Funny, PSG paid £166m for a slightly younger one in the same window.

You guys haven't paid anyhere near £25m for Maddison. Leicester have publicly inflated it so they are able to say to City how much they are being quoted for even their own targets.

Same as we didn't pay £12m for Roberts.

Classic tactic.

Laporte had a buy out clause which was increased by £20m after we initially tried to sign him two seasons ago.

City tax.

Mahrez must be so sick of Leicester's shit by now. If this doesn't get done I wouldn't be surprised if he just doesn't bother going back for next season. Only so many times they can keep fucking him about after promising him they would let him go.

We're not gonna overpay for him no matter how you spin it.

When you tell someone you take everything they say with a "Pinch of salt" you are insulting them. It isn't complicated.

When the alternative is allowing the rest of the forum to keep talking as if Tolmie is a 100% reliable source of information, I think he was well within his rights to point out the things that he's said in the past that haven't happened. Otherwise new posters will just assume that if Tolmie says something, it's true.

I have a feeling that this transfer will drag on until the last transfer day and then, either LCFC will be in desperate situation for money or City abandoning the deal. I have a sense that this deal is still on (not being LFC-fekir optimist), but this might be a ploy from city to send out some sort of a message. (Think Jorginho)

£60m or whatever in the bank on the last day of the window is no good for them.

I think 75m in the current market is OK. There are all sorts of average players going for 30m. He is a former player of the year. And would improve us enormously. He is in his prime.

Put it this way. We should negotiate on it, and do every damned thing we can to bargain them down. Which we are doing, according to all the signs. But I don't think that sum, if we finally paid it, would have anything outrageous about it.
It would be a very expensive luxury, because I don't actually think we really need him. Would be nice to see him in that sky blue shirt, though.
