Riyad Mahrez

The problem is the player. We seem to have almost used him as a weapon to drive the price down. We knew they wanted £90m yesterday. We knew we were never paying more than £65 - £70m but we kept offering piddling increases whilst encouraging him to down tools to drive them to desperation.

If we have walked and dumped him in it that is not classy. And agents and players could recall that in future when you lot are calling players to demand to go.

Hope this is not it because I don't think we have done anyone proud this time if it stays like this.
Mate, it's not City's fault Leicester were asking 90m+.

Gutted, think he'd be brilliant in our team. Think anything beyond £70m was stretching it for me though. Would be interested to know what we really offered and what Mahrez's agreement was with the club with regards to them releasing him. Think it's a dick move to get him to kick up a fuss if we weren't willing to offer what was going to be required but given we don't know the full facts, I hope that isn't what happened.

SSN say its over - why should we believe those KFA's - they said we had made 3 bids etc. etc. All they are doing is edging their bets - it doesnt happen then they say I told you so - if it does Jim White and his cronies are in their element later tonight - Last minute U-Turn stuff etc. Don't think it will happen but may be wrong - SSN certainly don't know.
The BBC have a detailed account saying the same thing and they don't report under their own flag unless they have it properly sourced, it's off.

Missing out on Sanchez and Mahrez is dissapointing but hopefully Sané and Jesus won't be out for too long.

And this is why deals like Neymar, Coutinho and VVD etc only distort the market if clubs let it. Leicester have said 'Well if they're going for that then he's worth this' - If no one meets their valuation all those deals did were delay a player move to another day. Maybe before those deals 65m would have got us the player this window, but Leicester can't hold out forever. It's up to the clubs to grow a pair and say no, just because Liverpool or PSG over pay for players does not mean that's the new market rate, and we're willing to miss out on a few transfers to let everything settle down.
See how our moral stance pans out then.

I would've liked Mahrez here but I like better that the club place their own value on transfers, and won't be pushed around.
£95m is £40m more than we paid for KDB, which is outrageous.
To be fair most on here would say that as of now KDB is worth 140m.

This all day. 95m is an insult. Not only is Mahrez not worth that, he's trying to force his way out. Aubemayang just went for nearly half that, the market is not THAT inflated.
The price was a complete piss take but someone will probably pay it in the summer.
