Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

It was a joke clearly as someone said they bet I cheered his miss so I played along with the stupid comment. That guy doesn’t deserve an apology as he’s suggesting my beef with Sterling has something to do with his race. Bold claim that and luckily for him I don’t wish to persue it further
You’re treating people on here like idiots, you wasn’t joking at all , your making stuff up as well, your Utd fan pals all thought Sterling would be crucified if he’d missed like Rashford did they , utter bullshit. Your an excuse for a City fan on here to wind people up.

So is sterling being attacked or not

Interesting that after the last game no one is now suggesting Southgate might drop Sterling and I've not seen any calls for it either.

Just seems to have been accepted he's going to play vs. Colombia.

It's getting dangerous fro Sterling now we're into the knockouts. Anything less than a world class performance whilst we get knocked out and he will be crucufied. Only thing that can save him is someone else making an horrendous error or us winning the WC.

Seems to me that they save their criticism for when he plays. Perhaps that is their point, they simply don't want him in an England shirt..
Reminds me of the pre season games where City are ignored and other teams made out to be PLl winners, then the reality of the season sets in and the pre season hype fades replaced by sniping at City.

Let's see what happens. I have a feeling the Sterling haters across the UK will have to eat their words. Meanwhile the media (and social media) bully boys seem to have moved onto Pickford, a youngster playing his first international matches (not his fault he's the best of a bad lot). We always need a scapegoat in this country and a lot of people relish destroying people's confidence (I'm not talking about fair, balanced criticism)

Just reading back a few pages, loving the absolute bone heads who moronically wade in saying the media and what they say shouldn't matter... are they that desperate to put Sterling down(is it bollocks "constructive criticism") that they rush into a thread without reading the fucking title of it properly first?

Perhaps instead of trying to convince us what this thread is really about, they need to create their own thread with an honest title, maybe "I think Sterling is shit" or something like that?

Of course media matters. It is a function of the venture capitalists who run the country.
Most people barely have time or incentive to know what is really happening. Their brief tastes of media gives them a construction of reality.

Anyhow I know it's not a political forum.

The media are just total cowards. They gauge the opinions and prejudices of the uneducated and put it into print or another medium.

I don't think it's that they don't want him in a England shirt so much as they don't want him in pole position of a united player in a English shirt perhaps!!

Possibly.
Well over 100 years since we were advised to beware of lies, damn lies and statistics. So we should also be aware that the media have peddled that info for the same time with the proud boast that the truth should not get in the way of a good story.
Fake news continues to exist.

It's possible they love him being picked for England so they can then enjoy their favourite pastime of giving him pure shit.

I think Sterling is a good player, but I think what the media says is irrelevant unless you’re thick enough to place importance on it and those who place importance on it justify the WUMs in the media to wind everyone up even more as they know they have an audience stupid enough to bite to their utter horseshit.

“complaining about the media is as pointless as complaining about the weather” has been said on a documentary I’ve just watched this evening.

I think the middle ground is being lost as far as Raheem goes. Nothing will convince me that some of the articles written about him are vile and written with a dark undertone but at the same time I think people are so aware of his treatment by some of the media that they taking it a bit far. The football decisions are Southgates alone and if he prefers Rashford so be it he doesn't seem to be someone who is swayed by the media decide who plays from what he see's. As far as other fans go then the Rags will want Rashford obviously and the Liverpool fans have got no love for him and they have the biggest gobs. Let's be honest Talksport etc are just shit who try to stir up crap to try and keep listeners. The football side of things can be picked apart but at the end of the day Raheem missed a chance as did Rashford so maybe it's best to recognise that they are both playing for England not their clubs so we don't dole out the same treatment to Rashford that we sympathise with Sterling about.

Give over, addressing a problem isn't thick however you want to spin it, the media's narrative does have an effect whether you admit it or not(or whether the player admits it either) therefore whether we like it or not, it does have some relevance. How much relevance remains to be seen but there's more than one reason to my mind that the Sterling we see for England is a shadow of what we see at City, his position/the formation, the quality of the players around him AND the extra pressure and unjust scrutiny placed on him in the England squad by the media all come into play.

The idea that was held about the media putting pressure and scrutiny on Sterling is only a reaction to when he has performed badly or missed a sitter that would have counted(he hasn't yet) and is just the same as it would be for any other player in the same position has been put to bed after Rashford's last game. Most of us already knew this but we have a direct comparison which highlights everything we have been saying from the beginning.

It's also not blues who are clicking, buying those papers and regurgitating said horse shit so your wrong there too, they have an audience but it isn't City fans. So with that said your theory that if we ignore it, it will go away(or that we're giving them incentive to continue with it by criticising British sports media over it) is not likely either.

You're entitled not to care but if all you have to say is "it doesn't matter so we shouldn't care" then you're not adding much to the thread at all and you're going to end up repeating yourself pointlessly(obviously a lot of people feel differently about it than yourself). It would also be bigotry to try and say your own personal opinion is all that is allowed on the matter(ie Mr Casual doesn't care so nobody else is allowed to) I hope you realise that.

My main gripe is exactly as I've already said, the brain dead morons trying spin the subject of the thread so they can talk about how shit they think Sterling is.

Bingo, there’s a player performance thread for that.

It wouldnt bother me if Raheem didnt play another game for England , like others have intimated if we do get to the latter stages and Raheem is in the side , it will be his fault when we lose , absolutely no doubt about it ,(although Pickford's name is also on the frame for the hate mob) would rather save him from all the media shite and especially bonehead Shearer , and let him have couple of cameo sub appearances. You have got to admire Raheem , the amount crap he has had to put up with and he is sill willing to pull the shirt on when requested , he is a tough cookie and mentally very strong to handle all the drama.

I see the BBC are still trying to make Sterling or Rashford a ‘thing’ with their team selector for the Columbia game.

Laughable.

Like I’ve said, I think Sterling is good!

What I’m trying to do is get people to wake up to the fact the media’s opinion doesn’t matter (and it really REALLY doesn’t). It’s like all religion; it’s a load of bollocks and the sooner the world moves on from religion and gutter media, ignore every single facet of both, the world will be a better place.

If the BBC are this morning still going with the Sterling/Rashford debate, our fanbase should be paying it as much attention as we are that daft religion programme with Nicky Campbell where they’ll be talking about whether we should believe the story about the burning bush. It’s fucking pointless. The only thing that matters is what goes on on the pitch, not what some random media company want to spark up a dullard’s debate about.

You have to start somewhere...

I think threads like this give the gutter press a platform to aim to get their stories posted on. Each and every one of them will monitor this thread. It draws attention to their stories. Which is exactly what they want and is exactly why it should be ignored. It’s like a child or a dog, if they’re annoying you and you ignore them, they stop, if you bite to their attention seeking they carry on. And on and on and on... because they know they’ve got you.
