Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Not sure anyone has said Sterling is the finished article on this thread , we have just the one poster twisting the facts to suit his agenda , his finishing is the obvious flaw but 20 odd premier laegue goals as a wide player is hardly derisory , and the thread is about the media witch hunt that Raheem has suffered since leaving the Dippers , we know he doesnt produce his club form for Southgate and its frustrating , but when the media mention Rashford in the same sentence as RS then you really have got to laugh , there is no comparison. Our Tommy boy is either thick skinned or just thick , when you have been schooled on a thread so many times and you come back for more , then the intelligence has to be questioned.

I value him a lot more for city than I do England where he had an incredible season. Playing with us suits him having better players around him making the most of his best asset which is his movement. Being balanced enough to say when he’s had a bad game or not look completely stupid and deluded to defend him on every occasion regardless of the situation doesn’t mean I don’t value him.

Many on here believe he can do no wrong because of the uncalled for shit he gets in the media, that’s admirable to stick up for one of our own until the end, you just lose credibility in any football opinion if you can’t see his flaws also. Have a great Friday. X

Hi Tom, still waiting.

Fucking hell, you must hate the lad if you want him to walk through Liverpool with a million in cash.

Yeah, they'd probably mug him and the poor lad would be stood there, in the middle of Stanley Park, with a million quid in his back pocket and no trainers!

This thread was supposed to be about the media and their treatment of Raheem. Instead its just turned into a daily repeat of Tom_mcfc spouting the same message every day, nothing about the media and people responding with the same messages trying really hard not to call him a cock. Would be best all round if this thread was just closed down.

I don't see how it would even be possible for him to replicate anything like his club form in this England team. Of course he can play better than he has done but you look at the players around him and the way they are set up and there is a pretty low ceiling on how any of the England front players are going to be able to perform imo - short of going on some kind of Maradona-esque run and taking on an entire defence. Add to that the unnecessary pressure put on him in particular, due to the extra levels of scrutiny that are ONLY put on him and you are only going to get what we are currently seeing - a player trying his best and doing reasonably well in a difficult role in the team but looking short on confidence at times. The only way he is likely to turn this around is to hit one in from 30 yards but then he tried that a couple of times the other night and the shots were blocked which resulted in the usual response from the sheep. So he can't really win.

Nothing is twisted, every poster on here picks and chooses what they want to defend him. They move the goalposts and somehow find new and wonderful ways to turn poor performances into good ones. Stats is your best one, if he has a bad game for City but bags a goal (see Bournemouth away) and you point it out then you are crucified and it is demanded you look at his numbers. You ask why no one mentions his England numbers and everyone plays dumb or all of a sudden no longer wish to use stats as any supporting evidence. People have differing opinions which is perfectly fine, I always say as long as you're consistent in your logic there is no problem, the second you change your thought process to suit an argument you lose any credibility. Look at the stick Lingard has got in here for missing chances, he was accused of "messing up" by different posters in here the other night because of the chances missed. Sterling misses them chances and nothing but his movement is praised. I have said it many times now but be fair on all. I defend Sterling off here with mates and stuff if they are unfair on him like the other night, I also can see his flaws especially in his England games. There is a fair bit of delusion around the lad which I imagine fans from other clubs would laugh at looking in, bordering on Liverpool behaviour. Cultish

Pretty true, although after every (average) performance it is the same people repeating the same shite and trying to find any angle to suggest he was amazing.

Hi Tom, still waiting.

Sorry mate what you waiting on? I'm in demand sadly.

The only person who has lost credibility is use with your OTT hatred of Sterling anyone who cheers a substitution of a player like it was a goal loses any chance to criticise others

It was a joke in response to someone saying I cheered when he missed his open net (not for the first time) keep repeating it as factual though, you are more than welcome.

I can see it now......................scores the winner v Brazil in the World Cup final, most drivel wrote would be well and truly forgotten,as he will instantly be remembered as a hero for the rest of his life,he may well get the opportunity to do just that, let's hope he doesn't miss if that opportunity does happen

And then Jesus scores two to become the new boo boy up and down the land.

If something like that happened I think in many years' time he would be looked back on as being the hero who won the world cup but I'm genuinely not sure how he would be viewed in the near future. I suspect there would still be a lot of resentment and people trying to gloss over it with the usual criticism. I'm convinced if he scores the winner tomorrow there will be a general response that is quite snidey like, "about time he did something". The one thing I have learnt in recent weeks is just when you think it would be pretty much impossible for him to get loads of shit, he still does.

Listening to some plank (caller) on talk sport yesterday criticising his finishing trying to use some technical term that he heard a pundit say early last season. (saying he can’t lace the ball) wtf.
And claiming that Rashford should start in front of him.

But all the talk sport presenters and ex players defended Sterling (couldn’t belive my ears) saying he was a better goal threat and was playing well for England, also that Rashfords goal return was way behind Sterling’s, and that Sterling should be starting for England. The media has slated him but there are pundits out there who are starting to see what he offers England.

I'd genuinely love nothing more, a big performance and a goal to boot would be class. I don't hate him, i hate the hysteria on here over him.

@Tom_mcfc

I'm waiting for you to show me where I defended Sterling over his misses like you said I did yesterday.

Apologies if it wasn't you mate, many on here defended both his horror misses so far though.

I think the one lesson we learned from Matt Lawton’s initial article is what will happen if we lose to Sweden. The reaction to him wasn’t ‘why are you being a cock about Sterling’ it was ‘why are you being a cock about Sterling when England have just won their most important match in 20 years.’

You can pretty much bet your house a sizeable proportion of fleet street’s finest will have something akin to Lawton’s article to say about Raheem on Saturday night if we go out. Bizarrely, on the once bitten principle, it wouldn’t be surprising if Lawton is not one of them.

It was not a joke response as you stated you cheered as if someone had scored a goal as he had been shit so I call that bollocks

You say he "missed" an open net why do you keep repeating this bullshit. It has been pointed out to you many times that his open net miss was already called offside against Lingard so it would not have counted therefore cannot be deemed a miss

Tom you obviously hate Sterling but as has been pointed out so many times this thread is about the media treatment. You keep saying people defend him on here irrespective of his performance once again I call that bollocks what people are in this thread to do is highlight the hypocrisy and persecution that Sterling receives at the hands of the media and how that differentiates in the treatment of other players

Why not stick to the Sterling player thread as you are clearly out of your depth on this thread

Wouldn’t have thought it was histeria mate. Just blues sticking up for one of our players who has become a cult hate figure because of a concerted media hatchet job.

Sterling 18 from 33 league appearances, Rashford 7 from 35 league appearances. Raheem also has a much better goals from shots ratio. It's amazing how fake news has really taken a hold with a lot of the public. The difference in quality between Sterling and Rashford is not even close. I also think Lingard is much better than Rashford and so do a lot of proper United fans as opposed to the deluded fanboys who call Talksport.
