What are you talking about? He was one of our most consistent performers last season.

So, just because he didn’t have a great game against Belgium in the world cup we are now in trouble? Ridiculous comment.

We will be fine and he will once again have a good solid season, regardless that he is 33.

I know how good he was. I'm just saying. He is 33. When you see rivals signing younger top class midfielders, like United with Fred. Liverpool with Fabinho and Keita etc...

I'm just not confident he can avoid a decline for much longer.

As replaceable as he is and and as good as he was last season, you cannot bank on a 33 year old to maintain those levels of consistency. He may well give us another full season at that level, but equally, he’s at the age now where his form can drop off a cliff over night.

Very risky business not signing a quality rotation option.

Agree completely but there is no real indicator that his form will suddenly drop considering how good he has been in recent seasons so not a cause for alarm as of yet. But you'd imagine he'll probably be beginning to slow down now hence why Jorginho or someone in that mould needs to be brought in. The problem is quality DMs don't come along too often so you need to strike when they're available. It is a pity Fabinho left for Liverpool so early in the window as he would be a great backup buy if Jorginho falls apart. I'll tear my hair out if I hear one more person say Kovacic is a good back up when he's frankly not a DM. You could use Delph there but no offence to Delph he's a great utility player but the team demands world class starters in every position.

Fair enough.

I wouldn’t worry though. He has that athletic build and lives life the right way. Not had any huge injuries either. He’s one of them who will go on till they’re 37/38.

Has to be today or tomorrow. But have to say I'm really excited to see what Maherez can bring to the table. As good as he was at a side like Leicester, now he'll be playing alongside the likes of KDB, Sergio, etc. I think Pep will raise his game another level and even though we've been buying young lately, seeing us bring in a PL winner, POTY forward in his prime should only strengthen the squad further.

I'm happy with Mahrez. Much more concerned about Jorginho. We need a DM more than a forward. Looking at Fernandinho vs Belgium. Can you imagine us going into this season with him as our first choice? At 33.....

If your point is that a well-run club in fact replaces players before they go into decline, then I understand it.
Otherwise, I'd find it perfectly reassuring for us to go into the new season with Fern. We're not desperate, in this window, for a top quality backup, and if we can't get one, then so be it (I still think Jorginho will happen). Next year, though, we'd almost certainly have to have someone come in. Or in the January window, if we could get someone good (unlikely).

(Just occurred to me that this is the Mahrez thread. Sorry mods, Ric).
