I’m sorry but when did delph become this all conquering midfielder? He did decent as a left back last season but he’s nowhere near the quality we need.
As a stop gap he might do a job. Fernandiho isn't exactly the best in the world. He's just done a v.good job for us.

NO. We do not have enough if we want to achieve our targets. We need to strengthen because if we sit on our laurels like we have done after past successes then it usually goes wrong.
Dinho has been great but no matter how fit you simply can’t play Pep football all season without rest - not withstanding injury or the fact he is 33. Delph may well be able to play there and he would easily but he is simply not reliable fitness wise - unfortunately. Gundo as well can do s job there but they are stop gaps - we need a very good player there and ideally for the longer term. Then with Dinho we are well covered.
Others are stengthening and we need to be on our guard

And our targets for next year are?

I think you are being a tad overly cautious. Delph and Gundo are more than capable when needed in that position.

Couldn’t agree more
Hate to say it but balls. Fernandinho is an unreal athlete, a top professional and a hugely unrated player but to believe he can be continue to play at his current level and carry that burden alone for the next two seasons is unrealistic how many cms at 35 are starting for top clubs?

I think assuming the best just because we reached 100 points last season and think that is going to happen again is so stupid. We wont the league with Mancini and the season after we were shit and werent even in the title race really. Same after Pellegrini's title where we scored above 100 goals and scored 5 vs Arsenal and 6 vs Tottenham etc.

Mentality has to be perfect for a start when you start defending your title. Teams are going to try to put extra shift in vs Champions. Players cannot feel like they have made it now and success wont have to earned by working 110% hard. Pep could be a guarantee to thats not happening but still some players might be happy with what was achieved already.

Having new players coming to the team making it stronger is a must. We want to do well finally in the CL too and we are coming up short the Monaco/Pool ties showed it even wih Guardiola. If we cannot beat these then Bayern, Barca, Real on their day wont give us a chance either.

Juventus won their league yet they went for CR too.
Barca won their league yet they have big plans for this summer, missed out on Griezmann earlier...

Not even mentioning even things can click for our rivals too and they might get just 10-15 points more than last season while we get 10-15 less. That would make it pretty close title race.

i dont think just signing players for the sake of signing them will help.....juve is a very old team in general and they have ALWAYS been on top in italy....even if we only sign one more player the team as a whole will be much better with another season playing together

I'd say Marhez is a good addition to a title winning side. There will be another coming in at some point. I think the difference here is Pep, he will not rest on his laurels.

Thing is Fernandinho is 33 years old. There are no guarentee he’ll maintain his high level to christmas. Especially not after a disappointing WC campaign.

True, but in honesty we don't need him vs 90% of league opponents and Silva, Kev and Gundogan could easily deputise in the role from time to time against the parked bus brigade.

When we were first linked to him and Fred folk were saying how great it was to be targeting that area of the squad; one that needed improving let alone strengthening.

Now all of a sudden because it appears we won't sign either, we're fine the way we are apparently. Because annoyance at the fact can't be anything but rampant criticism.

Oh and Gundogan, Delph and Zinchenko have all gotten exponentially better over the summer without really playing. The "Pogba syndrome" if you will.

I like jorghino and I think we missed a quality player there. Deal should have been wrapped up weeks ago

The problem is we never know which 10% of the league we need him against.

It's not just a case of playing Gundo vs. easy teams or at home (he was amazing there against Arsenal and Chelsea away), the problem arises when the atmosphere in the match changes and tackles start flying in or the opposition start hitting us on the break.

I don't think we could ever play him with Mendy, for example, which rules out a lot of games where we'd want Mendy's extra width and attacking threat to break down a parked bus - he'd leave too much space and Gundo can't cover it.

Some say Pep was ready to pay 50m 2 days ago for a DM.

On the other hand, if Jorginho was the missing piece in our puzzle for the next 5 years,
why wasn't Txiki ready to pay those further 8m? 8m over 5 years!

Maybe he doesn't panic the way others do and Pep is confident to develop alternatives.
Paying anothe £50m wouldn't have bagged Joginho. He wants the chance to continue playing under Sarri..
