Who now then?...

I think the clubs thinking is right now there isn’t a suitable player available. The first half of the season we will see if it becomes a concern or not and act on it in January or make a move next summer...why is everyone flapping over one position ? We play as a unit we don’t depend on a cdm like most other clubs

Presumably Gundogan will feature a lot in a number six role. But once again, we could be playing with fire against teams who can be devastating on the counter attack.

Gundogan's best two games were Spurs away & Chelsea home. Two of Europe's best counter attacking sides. Both ambushed us on the counter and hammered us the season before.
Gundogan may get swamped against the lightening counter attack. That's a problem we've suffered with or without Fernandinho.
But can we just judge Gundogan & how he'd fare on the evidence we have?

I agree, we need help in the middle, but not at the expense of our obvious transfer policy.

Funny you said that because I'm starting to think that we're unlikely to see a fern type dm at the club under Pep. Pep has said all the right things about Fern over the last 2 years. However, he has not once pursued a player remotely similar to Fern. Fred, jorghino, pjanic,Thiago, these are the type of midfielders we've been linked with to slot into Ferns role. All good players but have more of an emphasis on an offensive game compared to ferns role in the team. I can see where pep is going with it in how he wants the team to evolve. My only concern is whether City will be as effective in the short and long term in the absence of ferns all round quailties

I agree, I don't think Pep will ever sign an out and out ball winning midfield player as he expects all 10 outfield players to win the ball back just at a high intensity. It just so happens that Dino is superb at this so probably stands out a bit. The main aim of the pivot is Peps teams is to beat the press or if a team is sat back play the little neat passes between the lines, again something Dino is good at and most probably why we a looking to sign midfielders with a wide range of passing rather than a battler.

I also agree with your last point, I would struggle to name a few more complete midfielders than Dino.

I don't know of any impending signings, but I get the feeling a big transfer will come in next week.

Douglas Luiz, it is then. I must admit from what I've seen of him in pre season, based on what Pep wants, this could work well.

Right ! For all you negative twats that infest here and the matchday thread. We might not have this and that, but what we have is a damn fine squad
and a top top manager. A club in such a healthy position, that the only way is upwards.
Now for once in your fucking lives, just enjoy it.
