United thread 2018/19

Same here, mixed views. When they play Chelsea I cannot cheer the Rags on for a win, it would just go against the grain. Grudgingly I would settle for them taking a point. I want City to win the title in their own right with no help from the Rags. If I had a crystal ball and the Rags had to win for City to get the title then of course I would cheer them on.... reluctantly. Any other occasion I want them to loose as it’s a good hours entertainment post match on the tele, then over on Rag Cafe

Because for a lot of us , however unlikely we can envisage a situation where a win for them can do us a favour and maybe even win us a trophy. If the difference between them winning ang finishing 6th instead of 7th but it means we win the league what would you want ? It's the never ever I don't get.
I give up I really do...It's just so obvious you are either all trolling, plain stupid or haven't been a fan for very long

Let's get this right, do you ever want United to win or not irregardless of the circumstances - I can't decide if you want them to win or not, you've not made it clear enough.

Folk will want Huddersfield to get a result against Liverpool next week because the latter dropping points is beneficial to us and the former are irrelevant in the title race and thus our season.

Now, replace Huddersfield with United and the situation is exactly the same.

Simple.

Unless you're stupid.

Mid table filth is a no brainer - have them take points off title rivals by all means.

The real question is which of these scenarios you favour:-

Champs City
Runners up Liv/Chel
17th Filth.

Or

Champs Liv/Chel
Runners up City
18th Filth

Being relegated would screw them for 10 to 20years.

That, in my view, is a very difficult choice.

No, it’s a very easy choice.

The first scenario every day of the week.

And twice on Sundays.

by that logic you seem to be more emotionally invested in them then you are in City which is just odd - Think your living in the past, like most on here I also spent the 90s and 00s hoping they lost every single game as it was soul crushing seeing them pick up title after title whilst we resembled something out of a monty python sketch - gotta move on and take help where it can come if it means securing back to back PL titles - Bit like PEG did for us in the 13/14 season against the dippers

And now we’re something completely different.

;-)

Answer this. Last day of the season, United play Liverpool and we play Everton

We are seven goals to worse on goal difference to Liverpool but level on points. We are obviously favourites to win our match by a goal or three. Do you still want Liverpool to beat United?

I know what you are saying mate but the hatred for the rags will cloud people's judgement.
For me it's always a City win regardless of anything followed by a rag loss ...unless the rags winning actually benefits us.
I think Chelsea will probably finish second but by a fair few points from us.
So In some ways a Chelsea win isn't bad but if they drop points it's also good...it's a win win situation in my opinion.

For me it's always a City win regardless of anything followed by a rag loss ...unless the rags winning actually benefits us . . . and doesn't do them any good and/or is hilarious (examples: PEG stays there longer; they go from 9th to 8th; they win but Pogba is red-carded when he clatters into someone hooves-first, Phil Jones has four own goals in a 5-4 rag win, etc.)

In a sport where we have seen the finest margins matter (winning a league on goal difference) it is madness to not want them to take points off our rivals. We can say it is in our own hands and it shouldn't/wouldn't matter but any help along the way is fine by me. If that means United picking up some points occasionally I can live with that.
Maybe some people just want to see the odious scum lose every match they pay and think we are quite capable of beating Liverpool without help from scum.
Just a thought like. We don't have to want them to win.

Last day of the season there are limited options. Right now we don't really know what is the best Chelsea v Utd result is. Heart says Utd lose every time. At the moment we don't know how big a threat to City Chelsea will become (or Man Utd for that matter.) I don't think Utd are that far off meltdown as a football club. It would be great if they missed out on the Champions League at a time when they need a new coach and new players.

My point is that no one has used those words,so to attempt to turn a debate in a direction that suits is nothing more than a tactic to stir the shit, again.

As Mr Contrary is well aware.

I thought I’d read earlier one post which said ‘I’d rather city came second and rags relegated that city win title and rags stay up’ can’t be arsed trawling back through the thread to find it but that’s wrong on so many levels.
Yes we hate them but as long as they’re below us I’m not arsed where they finish.
