Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

No idea whether Sterling will sign or not, hopefully he will, but if he didn't wouldn't Sancho be the best replacement being homegrown as well, otherwise we are going to struggle for homegrown as I expect Delph to leave in the next window or two.

I'm not sure he qualifies as homegrown, you need to spend three years with clubs from the same association between the ages of 15 and 21 to qualify. He was 17 when he signed for Dortmund.

If he doesn’t sign he’ll be sold next summer, it’s as simple as that. He’s worth £60m+ with a year left and that’s a conservative estimate.

Don’t think he’s at the level of Barca or Real yet but he will get there. Real sell Ronaldo and bring in their next galatico, Raheem Sterling lol Their fans would protest. Barca have Dembele and he’s doing really well right now.

Don’t get me wrong I love Raheem and have defended him since he’s joined when most of the forum wanted his head. He’s a player with world class potential but is still young. He’s had one great season and is continuing his form this season. Also Valverde and Lopetegui are not the managers to unlock Raheem’s potential, with the latter likely getting the sack soon.

So I’m confident he’ll sign a new deal as there is no better place for him right now. He could stay another 3-4 years and still be young enough to go to Spain also by that time he’ll probably be a true galatico delivering the goods year after year.

With him up for sale and only 1 year left, I cannot see a fee of £60m, as much as we think he might be worth that

Ox went for £40m with a year left. Arsenal wanted more than £60m for Sanchez with a year left despite being much much older. £60m is the minimum we would get for Sterling in the same case.

Never thought of that, was just assuming being English he'd have enough years didn't realise it was from 15.
Edit, maybe that would be a reason for him to want to come back he could still get is 3 years in before he's 21, I assume it doesn't need to be consecutive years ?

If he doesn't sign its more than likely because he has already agreed to go somewhere else. The buying club will know that they can simply wait and let him run his contract down and, as someone else has already pointed out, the club will want a fee for him. I here what you say but believe we are not in the best position

It would depend when (if) he came back then, as he could still get in his 36 months?

He does qualify, he's allowed to count the season in which he turned 15 (2014/15) so as he didn't leave City until Aug 2017, he had completed 3 full seasons at English clubs.

Agreement with player is the easiest part of the deal. He’s stay until some club offers what City wants. For £60m I could see PSG, Bayern, Juve and many other clubs interested. It’s a bargain in today’s market and with his age.

Running his contract down is never going to happen unless the club is terribly run which it’s not. He’ll go in the summer for a good fee or in the winter for less but for free never. Ross Barkley went for what £15m? with 6 months left FFS. Sorry but you’re wrong here.

Everything you just said was also true about Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sanchez.

Do need to factor in his wages, which will be commensurate with a lower transfer fee, so still closer to £300k a week, which, when legislating a £60m fee, still makes it only a reality for a small handful of clubs.

I think only Spain or London would be attractive for his young family.

So we're talking Madrid, Barca, Chelsea - Arsenal at an extreme push.

The assumption there is that there'll be just one club interested, not likely the case at all if Sterling is available.

I cannot be wrong because the events have not occurred , we simply disagree. I could quite easily say you are wrong that he will not be allowed to leave on a free as that is something outside of the clubs control!

I expect him to re-sign, but if he has made up his mind to go, then we are not in the driving seat in how much we get

Time to show the usual detractors and competitiors that we mean business for the very long term, domestically and in Europe. His recent performances are making his demands less ridiculous by the match. I imagine it's making for some very difficult decisions and shifts of thought in our boardroom.

We dont know what his demands are nor what the club is offering

As I have previously said mate, if he isn't re-signing, I dont believe it will because he wants a bidding war for his services, its because he already has a new club lined up

He may well do but if he gets to the last year of his contract then clubs will be queueing up and offering him all sorts of incentives, they'll likely then try steal a march by signing him before he becomes a free agent.

I would be astounded if Sterling went on a Bosman.
