Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

He has a contract with the club until Summer 2020.

I am not sure the club should give him the 300k he is asking for now.

We shouldn’t and we won’t.

He’s the same age now as Kun was when we first signed him. Kun scored 30 goals that season and will have been on something similar to what Sterling is on now.

I think a compromise is on the cards and they will meet in the middle. If he does not sign on the dotted line where will he end up? Chelsea or Spain?

Let’s face it Sterling is in a strong position and he’s association trained so there’s a premium in the first instance, he scored 23 goals last season and he has less than 2 years on his contract.

He may also be keeping his options open, would he have less invasive media coverage if he lived in Madrid?

I really hope he signs as there are very few English players good enough for City so he would be very hard to replace.

I would suspect something like £120K pw.

Sadly, it's considerably more than that already, hence City don't really have much wiggle room, outside of causing a future stampede.

Raheem turned down £110k a week to stay at Liverpool, so it gives you an idea how much we pushed the boat out the first time.

For context (I can't really say how I know) Sane earns £65k a week, which wasn't too shabby for a kid and his previous wages at Schalke, but if he's to be commensurate with his current valuation, it about a third of where he needs to be just to match Raheem's current salary.

And this is without the fantastic bonuses City pay to keep basic salaries within limits.

I suspect what his agent was hoping for was that Sterling would have an outstanding World Cup and thus be in a position to really push for a huge rise, hence the delay. Fair enough too, but while he did fine, and a lot better than people gave him credit for, it didn't strengthen his negotiating hand.

I daresay there will be an agreement, and he'll get a pay rise plus lots of incentive bonuses to allow it to be painted as either £300k a week or £200k a week depending on who is talking about it.

He's a lucky lad on an amazing contract at the best club he will ever have the honour of representing.

If he doesn't feel our offer is fair then its time to part ways.
