Crap towns

That's because it's a choice of one or the other;-) You're right, having lived here now for 3 years they are mostly all friendly welcoming people. Although their allegiances seem to be split between either football or rugby. Seems they can't enjoy both.

I noticed that too. Usually Liverpool fans, or Wigan rugby, the odd Sint Elins fan.

Redcar is trying hard to get back on it's feet. They have a road now that houses about 6-8 nice bars/micro pubs, not sticky carpet pubs. The first saturday of each month they also have a street party thing promoting all the local shops which i liked.

As a kid visiting the area it was rocking then it suffered the general lack of opportunity work wise the whole area did. Noting even on a monday night every pub and bar on the main street had a bouncer though reminded me the area was not totally gentrified just yet haha.

Louth in North Lincolnshire. Probably a nice county town once but now one which time (and austerity) have sadly left behind. And it’s only a short drive to Mablethorpe and then on to Skegness. You don’t get a much more depressing trio than that !
My wife is from Louth and we got married in the beautiful church in the middle of town (St James). Louth used to be a lovely market town but the loss of local industry has had a negative impact. if you look at the high street, once full of local butchers, bakers and specialty shops is now all charity shop, estate agents and hair dressers.

You need to add Grimsby, about 10 miles away and probably the grimmest place in England, to the list of local “attractions”.

Sad to hear that. I was in Louth with a couple of mates for a few weeks in the summer of 97. Thought it was lovely round there. The locals were great with us too. Even considered trying to get a job at a quarry and staying, But then, I'm from Heywood so everywhere is pretty nice and beats working at Argos or Index.
Haha, I think you just revealed to me the source of my inherent happiness!

A son of Jericho.

Bingo.... i win the prize. Born in Middleton, grew up in Hartlepool then Liverpool then lived in Castleford, Morecambe, Barrow and Peterlee. Now live in Ashington (which tops the lot). I did live and work in Doha for a while in a luxury compound but soon saw the error of my ways and moved to North Shields!
Holy sh...Ahhh piddy the f... ok, I have the feeling some of that wasn’t entirely your fault.

Some classics in this thread - been to most of them.

Not seen much mention of the delights of:

Gainsborough
Boston
Lincoln

They don't have 6 fingers, generally 7. They also have fully developed flippers if I recall correctly.

Also total and utter dives.

Hull and Hereford get honourable mentions at the end of the list

Has anyone mentioned Winsford, along with Middlewich and Crewe creates a sort of Cheshire triangle( like the Bermuda triangle except its property that dissapears ). Oh and Winsford is a scouse overflow town.

I used to live in Hereford. It was alright. A bit slow perhaps but plenty of pubs and the locals had a unique sense of humour.

Edgar Street has a huge home terrace. Beautiful trip there if you go via the Malvern Hills.

Accrington was awful. Merthyr Tydfil too.
