Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

What he did before he came to us is as of much interest to me as thimble collections of the world.

I don’t give a fuck. You lot hate him, I get that. Crack on.

Remember this though. Hatred always corrodes the vessel that carries it

Peace and love brother. Peace and love.
Nice sentiment indeed - is it still ok if I think he's a tw@t? ;-)

I still don't think the media persecution of Raheem has owt to do with race. It is purely pro-Scouse red bitter driven because he dared to leave the Scouse ****s to better himself at City.

That may well fuel something that the racists in society can pick up on, but i'm still not having it than it's anything other than anti-City bullshit.
I think you've hit the nail on the head mate, as no one disliked until he came to City.

We are having a resurgence of racist abuse up here too. The rise in fat right ****s crawling out of their bunkers is a worry.

I agree that it is any excuse to have a go at you, but, plenty of ****s hate you but wouldn’t use racial abuse to show it. Those Chelsea bastards are racist. And they hate you.

Looks like some furious back pedalling has started. Just been on News Now and while Raheem ‘shows his class’ on Sky Sports (and it is the most fawning of write-ups) Phil Foden is a ‘boy in a mans world’ in the Guardian.
Maybe I’m just an old cynic....

Actually it's in the telegraph and considering the length of the article it was strangely posted within minutes of the final whistle.

Hmmm, usually agree with you, but not on this. The papers that have hammered Sterling the most relentlessly have been the Sun, the Fail, the Express and the Star, all possessed of hard core right-wing readerships, and given that the name of the media game in this global online age is to generate clicks, it is perfectly logical that they would seek, as craftily and subliminally as libel and race relations legislation will allow, to reinforce particular stereotypes. The Fail does it on its front pages all the time, trawling the globe for rape stories in India and Pakistan, plugging the rape-fugee narrative in respect of asylum seekers both here and on the continent, and running periodic tales about Muslim women being thrown off buses for refusing to remove their veils and so forth. Why would you think they would operate a different MO on the back pages? The Sun gratuitously attached a photo of Raheem to a generic tale about footballers socialising with drug dealers. The Express did the same thing when Liverpool Academy players were accused of sexually harassing female staff members at Rainhill College (Sterling being no more than a former alumnus who left the place 5 years earlier). The Mail published a double page eulogy to St Harry of Totteringham headlined “No tattoos, polite and patriotic, engaged to his childhood sweetheart. Shock horror! A football hero England can be proud of!”, straight after the contrived AK47 tattoo hysteria. In other words Sterling = gangsta, not really arsed about being British, fathers loads of kids by different women.
Encouraging the global army of dippers has unquestionably been the main aim of the Sterling obsession, but sometimes you get 2 for the price of 1, and I believe the reinforcing of racial stereotypes to match readers’ prejudices has been equally deliberate

Before he signed for us certain elements in the media had him portrayed as a hippy crack smoking, teenage father of multiple kids who was violent to women.

Liverpool's PR team used that portrayal in their spin during the transfer saga to the point that it became open season on him.

If you’ve not seen @adamkeyworth Twitter you should. 36 examples where
Sterling gets persecuted by the media. From Telegraph to the Times and Guardian however you can’t escape The Sun, Mail and Star appearing over and over. A disgrace and good work from Adam.

One of the top stories on bbc homepage. I don’t know the guy but I feel proud of him. I hope things do change and it doesn’t just blow over and as we were.

I cant help but think "you bunch of ****s" now that ex-Liverpool players are suddenly defending him.

The same media driven crap that started the hatred is now being used to make the Dippers into saints. Brendan Rodgers and all the lick spittle ex dipper pundits should hold theirheads in shame, they wont but they should.

Carragher at least referenced it on monday night football, but no one has since taken it anywhere.
All started by Brenda and liverpool fans who thought he owed them something and latched onto and preached by racists using anything to knock a black man down.
When you put it all together and see what he has achieved so far in his life, it is absolutely incredible. And when you hear him speak I’m so proud to have his as our player
