I think that McNulty specifically namechecking Sterling in his article's headline was poor. I think he played as well as Lingard or Alli.
But he didn't have a great 2nd half, and i think it was a fair shout to bring him off for Rashford who I think (a long with Cheek) made a difference.
I think you're right about confidence. To me Sterling is much more of a confidence player than Rashford...but also has more pressure. Hence I would play him v Panama for the whole 90 (provided game goes as we expect) to get him a goal.
I think it’s because he plays with much better players when he plays for us and has a much better tactician managing him. He is a very good player but for me he needs quality around him. He wasn’t very good under Pellegrini in his first season for us but Pep has got him playing. I can’t imagine Southgate is anything special and some English players are very average.
