Leicester (League Cup) - Post Match Thread.

Really think its time for Zinchenko to stop being used at left back for his own sake, it doesn't do him any favours. He's good at keeping the ball, showed last night that he has good control of the ball in tight situations and his passing range is excellent, but going backwards he is never going to get it. On the other side, i dont think Brahim will make it at City and it's time for us to let him leave, i'd like Zinchenko to start taking the positions higher up front and i think he would have done more damage to Leicester than Brahim did on the left of a 3 or even in the pivot or any of the 3 roles in midfield actually.

Was very disappointed in Mahrez, didn't get past Fuchs once and was trying things that he shouldnt have been trying. He didn't work hard enough, not sure if going back to Leicester affected him but he was losing the ball and then not tracking back to regain it, couldn't believe he stayed on for the 90 tbh.

Garcia looks like a gem, got some bulking up to do but he's only 17, but the passing range and the way he is pre-disposed to break the lines with his passing is a joy to watch.

Walker
Diaz
Otamendi
Mahrez
Zinchenko (defending)

Crap tonight

Foden
KDB

Good

The rest just meh
Disagree with a couple of the 'meh' picks mate. Muric did the job (Ederson-esque) and the pen saves were tidy. Garcia - just wow. Didn't see that selection coming and he had a great game. Solid defending and excellent distribution.

Yeah fair is fair, they were both above the “meh” group I admit.

Good win last night was tricky near the end thought Leicester might sneak it but we got the business done. Some poor penalties but well played Muric was good to see all the players at the end how much it means to them and the fans. Love the Wembley day out for the league cup hope we can make it again this season

Probably been said loads of times but I liked the way Muric waited to see which way pen taker was going until hitting it. Thanks Muric. You are a big reason we are through.

I know their pens on the whole were poor but they still had to be saved which muric did, made a cracking save first half I thought he deserved motm ahead of kdb although he did have a good game ..

All great observations, I was particularly frustrated with Mahrez which does beg the question of what Pep will do if this does not noticeably improve. Perhaps it was the occasion of facing his former club but I have noticed similar in prior matches.

Brilliant goalkeeping, imo.
I think waiting works very well when the penalties are shit, but if taken properly they’ll be past the keeper before he can get anywhere near it. That’s why most keepers prefer to research the taker and then pre-empt the most likely corner. Not being a goalkeeper, I don’t know if that makes it excellent goalkeeping or just a bit fortunate that the pens were pea-rollers.

I was a keeper. I think you have to mix it up so that the taker does not know if you will choose a side or wait. In part, it's about reading (and researching) the taker. Aro completely psyched out Lord Farquaad, IMO.

Precisely the type of situation where VAR should be used.
According to the commentary they did review it and decided it wasn't a penalty or a free kick, presumably because it wasn't a "clear and obvious error".

VAR wont fix all ills. It is still down to someone else's judgement on whether they think its a foul, they just get more than one look at it. There will be instances where you see a replay and the VAR ref will give a different decision to what you think it should be.

Walker and Mahrez particularly poor. Zinky has done okay at left-back but time to try him elsewhere now, central like he plays for Ukraine. Also wonder if Garcia could do a holding job in midfield given time? Oh well, another semi-final, it's all I used to wish for in the bad days !!!

Absolutely, it's still all about interpretation im many decisions.

On the Brahim one in the first half I noticed a gesture from Mason which suggested it went to VAR, I didn't see the same thing with the Jesus incident.

Of course it's the manager's fault but it's time it was stopped. He isn't learning how to defend.

And he didn't make up for it, he scored a pen, which has nothing to do with being fullback.

If he had been a fullback we would have won 1-0.

He isn't & it's time we cancelled the experiment of trying to make him into one. Ic Delph gets injured, decent chance it will cost us the title or at least we will be relying on Liverpool crashing.

Some teams will most likely expolit Zinchenko if he plays enough.

maybe we need two then eh?
