Kyle Walker : 2018/19 performances

True, but (and this only my opinion) we haven’t bought well. The hierarchy at Spurs thought Walker was past his best when we bought him. Danilo and Mendy have spent more time injured than they have playing. I think Danilo looks pretty good. I have been less than impressed with Mendy who I think is just a quicker version of Kolarov.

We pissed away millions on centre backs before we got it right. We may have to do the same with the full backs.
Were you complaining about ky like this all last season
Calm down ffs

He was more than good enough last season. The last few months he’s been terrible, let’s just see if he can get over this bad form before labelling him as not good enough.

He was solid enough last season. I agree that it's a little bit of poor form. He does seem to suffer from the fact that nigh on every mistake he makes leads to a goal!

I'm getting really tired of Kyle Walker. He is not an intelligent defender, and it's very clear. Laporte and Stones are smart, not so sure about Mendy (yet). But Walker is just like a fast and angry pitbull and never thinks before he acts. The things he is missing:
• Ball controll. Everytime he uses his pace on the flanks, he always loses the ball and gets it too far away from his feet. Every f-ng time.
• Passing: everytime he is trying to pass to the strikers or overall attempting a key pass, it's always a miss leading to a counterattack.
• Positioning: he is often out of position.
• Defending: comparing him to Laporte is a joke. He can't clear the balls, he barely ever intercepts the ball, he is way too passive (like the first goal from Crystal yesterday) and he is usually pretty easy to beat.
• Crossing. For a fullback, you need to be able to cross the ball. This guy can't. Maybe 2 out of 10 are really good crosses. The rest are either too low, too high, too hard. I've seen so many fullbacks better than him at crossing. Alexander-Arnold, Alonso, Robertson, Trippier. Like, how hard can it be?

I really think Pep should start using Danilo more, because he is quality. Kyle is just reckless and arrogant. He has his speed, but what else, seriously? He is the weakest link in our team, hands down.

Fucking hell lol,if you were blue you would know danny is not playing because he has been injured for ages, pep has asked him to stay back a lot of times, you are comparing him to our 2 CB's

I'm sure he would if he was fit, instead of running Walker into the ground.

A huge player for us last season, one of the biggest reasons we weren't as exposed on the counter as we were the season before. Some of the stuff said about him here is crass.

Been way above his station for a while now giving it the big one about some nutmegs that he's done, and he's far too basic a player for that. Needs to get in the real world and do his fucking job

I’m perfectly calm thank you. If you can’t see what’s right in front of you and what lots of others on here recognise it doesn’t make those that can “uncalm” ( I just made that up). I have been a City fan for a very long time and I don’t make a habit of having a pop at our players. Kyle Walker is not a great fullback. His mistakes have cost us a lot of goals. We are weak at fullback on both sides which is why teams with fast wingers target those positions.

He’s never been an excellent player. He’s an excellent athlete who’s used his athleticism well in his career but his concentration levels have been appalling of late so it’s highlighting his poor attributes of football quality and his athleticism isn’t getting him out of the shit.
I said the same thing about him when he was at Spurs. His positional sense and reading of the game are poor for a top level FB. He's always relied on his pace to get him out of trouble in the past. He needs to be more aware of danger on the pitch.

That sounds very different to the way you put it.
What I actually said is that the hierarchy at Spurs thought he was past his best which is pretty much exactly what Pochettino said, according to the article. I didn’t embellish or interpret the words in any way.

It depends on interpretation of 'seen his best' I guess. And fwiw he's hardly going to say any different as Spurs manager, he's obliged to spin it as good for them.

Some pretty blatant and shameless revisionism going on in this thread. Walker completely revolutionised our play last season and has deservedly been named the best right-back in the Premier League three times during his career, twice in the last two seasons. He's not playing very well at the moment but this hasn't been an ongoing problem with him - some of the criticism of him in this thread is bordering on nonsense. "He was never an excellent player, just an excellent athlete" is complete tosh. Danilo deserves a run now, yes, if only to give Walker the rest he so clearly needs and give him a kick up the arse, but to re-evaluate Walker's entire career after his only dodgy spell in a blue shirt is unbelievable.

Well, despite obviously underpar performances as of late, I still rate him. Even if I am the only one left.

The lad clocked up plenty of brownie points last year. Yes, he’s seriously out of form and needs a break. However, one or two in our midst seem to be enjoying sticking the boot in.
