It's a travesty that it's been allowed to get to this point. Rugby is a far harder game to referee yet by and large it's refereed consistently from game to game and despite new interpretations of the rules every year they manage to roll them out with a minimum of fuss. Football referees are making it up as they go along at this stage and nobody in power cares.

It is being set up imo.

They tested in the World Cup, whether they could get away with absolutely anything, which was proven they can, so now Utd, Liverpool, Bayern Munich etc know there is no reason to fear v.a.r.

They will get some decisions go against, like they do now, but on the whole, they will benefit, like they do now.

If it was only used for 'clear & obvious' faults, as it was originally supposed to be, then it would be more about fixing actual misakes & clear injustice: the last thing any of the cartel.would want.

This way, withbrandom interference, what they lose on the swings, they will get back on the roundabout.

If we play as we can, this will be one of the biggest obstacles to us winning the Champs Lg imo.

Khaldoon should have a word right now & put the shits up them.

Three times he was within an inch of the ref’s face screaming at him in the first half.

Even their own manager told him to calm the fuck down.

Yup. Any time he or Schalke player was 'fouled', he'd either be rolling or straight in the refs face. It was a joke he didn't get booked.

On top of Caligiuri being a whinging **** and not getting booked...

Special Mentions to Bentaleb and Oczipka:

Bentaleb hauled down Walker delaying our counter attack, didn't get booked.

Oczipka palmed the ball away delayed our counter attack, didn't get booked.

There may be disagreements about the big decisions but the referee couldn't even do the basics right tonight.

If he hadn't been offside, there would be no need to foul him.

He gained an advantage by being offside.
Precisely.
They were all offside.

We play a high line. They break early so our defenders react to them gaining a yard. Both the guy fouled and the one nearest Ederson are interfering with play. The rules are crazy if they’re not.
Without pressure on the keeper he just catches that.
Without Ferns man getting ahead of him he doesn’t foul him. Is he supposed to let him go and if Eddie spills the ball he is then onside for the secondary play.

Crazy logic from Walton.

I can try to be objective about the first penalty but the interpretation given for the second is just bullshit.

The match day thread was a joke.

Ederson is shite
Sterling is shite
Aguero can’t pass
Kdb is shite
Silva is shite
Gundogan is shite
Otamendi shouldn’t play for us again

And yet we won away in Germany with ten men and having two tough penalties against us.

Last 2 of league cup
Last 8 of fa cup
Fighting for the league
Huge chance of last 8 of the champions league

Amazing how well we are doing considering we have such a shite team.

Proud of the lads.
The match day thread - as it always is especially if we are not winning 6-0 - was an utter embarrassment. Full of cry baby mard arses that know NOTHING about football. Ederson should save one out of 2 pens, Walker should never play for City again, Laporte can never play at left back again (too uncomfortable), Fernandiho a cart horse of a centre back, Otta should be sold at the earliest opportunity, Gundagon the worst signing ever, KDB embarrassing and should be taken off for mahrez, Benardo the most one footed player in the world, Merlin past it, Sterling having his worst game this season, Sergio greedy and not a team player. Also, Pep totally lost it taking Sergio off and playing Sterling up front. All direct quotes. What a bunch we have inherited from our success.

Just watching the re-run and there was a foul on Sterling after 5 minutes that was given but no card. It was almost identical to the one Otamendi got his second yellow for.

And how Caligiuri, who wasn't captain, didn't get carded for constantly being in the ref's face I'll never know. Made Rooney look discreet.
What about Bentaleb rugby tackle on Gundogan outside the box with no booking...Incredible.

It’s a grey area. He shouldn’t have had his arm where it was to start with but I agree it’s a tricky one for a ref. I just think that if we had a shot on target and an arm blocked its path to goal we wouldn’t be happy if we weren’t given it. I was wrong about the yellow. If it’s a pen it’s a yellow.

Totally disagree. His arm is in the most natural position and exactly where you would expect it to be. For reference look at his other arm. It’s mirroring it...!! He also tries to pull it away in the split second he has to react. Nothing more he could do under the circumstances. Never a deliberate hand ball and we would never be given it. See Newport only last week for reference.

You may think that, but that’s not the rule...!! Not your fault the corrupt refs who have given plenty of pens that should never have been given down the years has muddied the waters.

Couldn’t agree more. Even in a sea of puke-worthy match day threads that was a bad one. Absolutely corn-cobbed by an awful referee time and time again, and somehow this is the fault of Pep and the players? Fucking embarrassing.

Ok. I think the 1st penalty wasn't exactly clear cut either way. For one, his arm's all the way out there, and he moved his arm and it hit the ball. That's more than enough ammunition and plenty of refs have given decisions for things as trivial as that. However, he's also clearly trying to get it out of the way and he doesn't exactly have much time to react.
Tbh, I'd have been pissed off had we not been given a penalty for that; a shot's been blocked by a defender's arm. But at the same time, it wasn't deliberate, which according to the rules means no penalty.

What upset me really was the VAR overturning it. The fact that the ref had to go with upstairs because the TV was broken was poor on his part. But really the fact the call was so subjective should have meant that it wasn't overturned. If he'd given that straight away I could've much more easily lived with it.

The 2nd was just soft. There was no offside; the 'foul' was the first infringement ahead of any offside interferences (the foul was more of an off the ball incident). But it was really soft, but unfortunately there was enough there that technically it could be given. I'm glad VAR didn't overrule it, even if it went against us, just for the sake of VAR moving forwards.

The red card was kinda fair. The 2nd booking was totally ok but the 1st was again soft.

The ref kept seeming to straddle between being a real strict jobsworth and being super lenient, with no rhyme or reason. I guess it wouldn't surprise some of you to hear this is his first season in the Champions League proper as a referee.

Never a second booking for Tarka , the guy backed into him and fell over squealing. Conned a very connable Ref.
