West Ham (H) Post Match Thread

We should have run up a cricket score in the first ten minutes, some poor finishing let us down.

Players running on empty but kept a clean sheet which is very satisfying.

De Bruyne not back to his last season form and David Silva flitted in and out of the game, Zinchenko was excellent again.

Sane is a superb athlete and footballer but is well below his best at present and keeps persisting on cutting inside I just wish he would stay closer to the touchline.

Mahrez is an enigma, should be doing much better for the fee he demanded and looks like he just does not belong in this team.

Aguero worked his socks off Pep must have been delighted, Bernado and Sterling should always start if they are 100% fit they made a difference when they came on.

We need to get the injured players fit ASAP for the remaining games because with a fully fit squad we will take some stopping.

Shots:

City 20 - West Ham 2

On target:

City 7 - West Ham 1

Think you may need to redefine ‘not much better’.
And in scoring five goals Liverpool had a huge number of shots... 19

We could have easily given Weat Ham a 5-0er last night

We had 7 of what 'most people' would say was our first choice 11 missing last night (fully aware our best 11 is very very subjective) and could easily have won by the same scoreline we beat Chelsea by.

Some of the reaction on here is ridiculous in the extreme, al this after we played 120 minutes 3 days ago.

Having had a quick scan of the match day thread I can ony be thankful I go tot he games, Jesus Christ

Yep. We absolutely dominated and conceded one chance all game.

Menanwhile we could have easily scored 5 or 6. To describe the performance as atrocious or clueless is as moronic as it is hyperbolic.

Great effort from a tired team missing some key players. Rest now and go again Saturday.
I've just near enough posted this word for word on the moaning thread, I still cant believe what ive been reading.

Actually thought we played quite well. Finishing was terrible and some of our decision making in some incredibly good situations was at times poor but our general play was good, passing well at a decent tempo for the most part. It certainly wasn't one of those worrying performances where we are slow, passing is off and we look like we are struggling to create chances. Could and should have won 5-1, easily. Both full backs were excellent, Mahrez was poor, Leroy looked ok in bursts in first half but body language was terrible in the 15 mins he played of the second half. A game out of the way without Dinho and with 3 points will do me, just need to get our shooting boots sorted for Saturday.

Can’t get that bloomin Bernardo song out of my head. It’s proper shit, but I can’t help singing it.

For the first 30 minutes that was as good as we’ve played for some time - end product aside as we could and probably should have been 2-3 up after 10 mins.
Both full backs and Eddy were excellent. Nico and Vinnie very good.
It was always asking a lot to keep up that standard but we were nowhere near as bad as some on the match day thread were making out. I couldn’t believe I was at the same game on flicking through the thread at half time and after the game.
It’s fair to say that we looked a different side when Bernardo and Raz came on. Their energy is infectious and KdB started to ping passes about.
We then had a collective brain fart and decided that the best way to win the game was to play in our own penalty area rather than theirs. Despite Arteta urging them further up the field. It placed an unnecessary strain on the defence and led to more than a few missed place passes.

Missing Fernandinho and Laporte is huge.
Not starting Sterling and Bernardo is huge.
KdB and Silva off form is huge.
Tired legs from the League Cup final and penalty's is huge.

And still we created loads and won. Resultwise it looked like a tough game that we only won by an awarded penalty, yet in reality I think we totally dominated, created and deserved the win.

This! I love that we are all uniquely different and that we assess things from many perspectives but how/why the multitude doesn’t see it this way is beyond me!

@eversince 76 you could also add Schalke 10men to that list!

Hahaha - I can say what the fuck I want I went to the game cheered them on and paid my money.

I drove all the way back from Telford today as I’m working away to attend.

Because you’re critical of the team on an online forum you’re a worse supporter?
You drive from Telford and all you do is moan like fuck, any other day that would have been a 5.0 for us, do us all a favour and STAY IN FUCKING TELFORD

I’m not sure everyone who’s moaning even watched the game

We have had so many games lately and with us missing so many key players and having Raz and Bernie on the bench it was never going to be as easy as some expected it to be.
The lads dominated the game and we could and should have been 3 up before half time, the fact that we weren't made the fans nervous.
Sane had an iffy game and Mahrez looks short on confidence, he controlled the balls that were played to him on the touchline with great bits of skill then seems to be scared of attacking the box and constantly plays the ball backwards.
It's got to be a confidence issue with him at the minute.
Zinks and Danny look good and Vinny and Otta were comfortable all night.
Gundo was excellent and Sergio put in a good shift.
KDB looked better in the 2nd half after Raz and Bernie came on..great save from Eddie too.
Considering that we played away in Germany with only 10 men for a while and then played 120 minutes on Sunday, it was a bloody good performance and the lads deserve lots of credit for the effort they put in.
Hopefully we get the injured players back as soon as possible.
3 points is all that matters sometimes and it keeps the pressure on the dippers.

Soft. Bernie wriggled his body in front of two of their players, one of whom just about clipped him from behind. A tangle of legs really, but if any team was fucking due one it was us!
There was a good shout for a penalty a short time before the one which we got.
So although it was a bit of a soft penalty, coupled with the previous decision, it was well deserved.
West Ham's goal had some kind of force field round it all night!

3 points, could have been 5/6 but not clever pissing about deep at the back without Fern, we could very easily have gifted a goal late on.

My memory of the game will last of Zab running 70 yards chasing the ball all the way to Eddie on full-time. I'm sure it was so he could send love to the SS.

Mahrez isn't and never will be a City player.
Last night he was terrible.
He slows down the play and his passing is woeful.
The money we wasted on him should have been spent on a DM.
Whilst his chances have been limited he has shown no sign of improvement and hes has been training with us every day.
We need to take the hit and get rid in the summer.
We will be lucky to get £20M.
Compare him to Zinchenko he was my motm yesterday he has come on leaps and bounds with limited chances and he has changed position.

A bit of perspective please. We had just had a European away trip playing with 10 men for half an hour followed by a Wembley Final which went to extra time and penalties. We had injuries to at least three players who probably would have started last night plus the likes of Mendy coming back from injury. I know it's all about ifs and buts - the first five minutes could have been three nil, the game is over and we sit back and pass them to death. Full backs both had good games and Silva looked a lot better than the past few weeks. Felt a little sorry for Mahrez as twice KDB delayed the pass meaning Mahrez strayed offside and then when he held his run KDB played it early. They don't quite yet have that understanding but it will come. Bernardo and Raz made a huge difference and Sergio played well. However you could see how tired we were once we scored and after that it was mainly about making sure we didn't concede. West Ham had two shots all game - one on target. We cannot win every game 5-0 and some people need to understand that. Next game will also be tough although I think we will win. The next two games are all about the result not the performance and then hopefully we can beat Swansea and get through against Schalke and players will be back for Fulham. Now is the time to get behind the boys, not bitch and whinge.

Though I disagree with most of your posts concerning tonight’s game. I understand why you might think we played poorly. But to say that we were ‘atrocious’ IS way off the mark. You’re either wound up and in need of attention to release it, a wind up merchant, or you simply don’t know the full meaning of ‘atrocious?’
This may seem like a dig, it’s not meant to be. And I’m certainly not a happy clapper!
Don't wind him up or he will send you a threatening private message, or burst into tears ha ha

Trying to understand why we have so many shots yet few of them are on target.
Do we shoot without hope of accuracy almost in desperation or are we genuinely incapable of continuing our accurate passing game at the final stage?
Nothing new of course but still a puzzle.

I prefer to judge players in their second season. We're in a good place where we can give players time to adjust, some just take longer than others. I agree about spending the money on a good DM but they are gold dust. Jorginho was rated 4th best in the Premier League in a recent Daily Mirror article and he's crap.
