West Ham (H) Post Match Thread

We did what we needed to do. Should and could have been 3 up in the first 10 mins. Sterling and Bernardo are now looking like the new Silva and Aguero in how they can change a game, they take it by the scruff of the neck and it's fucking ace to see. Hope Sterling wins the lot with us whilst he is here as it will pain the Dippers for the rest of their lives.

Trying to understand why we have so many shots yet few of them are on target.
Do we shoot without hope of accuracy almost in desperation or are we genuinely incapable of continuing our accurate passing game at the final stage?
Nothing new of course but still a puzzle.

Two BIG problems in that regard for me from last night, worse than normal.

1: the shooting was half arsed. KDB's effort early on, meant business, but most of the other efforts were just people swinging a foot at the ball without real intent (& wtf DSilva was doing I have no idea but it was hopeless beyond belief) Gundogan bottled out of scoring the killer late on.

2: In general, we seem to get behind more teams than anyone in history & fail to find the right pass more than anyone in history. Any team playing against us gets in that position twice, they usually score once. Last night was particularly hopeless, sometimes putting in little dinked crosses into the West ham defenders or keeper, kicking it blindly into defenders' legs.

Part of that was caused by (1) players not genuinely having the requiered desire to score a goal. So the player on the ball, is effectively looking for where Aguero is, as nobody else is really trying to make themselves available.

Sterling was VASTLY different, when he came on, looking to score, all the time.

The only way they get the full £49m is if we win the champions league

Worth paying, really ;)

Mahrez isn't and never will be a City player.
Last night he was terrible.
He slows down the play and his passing is woeful.
The money we wasted on him should have been spent on a DM.
Whilst his chances have been limited he has shown no sign of improvement and hes has been training with us every day.
We need to take the hit and get rid in the summer.
We will be lucky to get £20M.
Compare him to Zinchenko he was my motm yesterday he has come on leaps and bounds with limited chances and he has changed position.

Hopefully we might get a bit more than that and can put it towards someone who will fit in better. I think he is done with us. Just doesn’t fit in at all.

3 points, could have been 5/6 but not clever pissing about deep at the back without Fern, we could very easily have gifted a goal late on.

My memory of the game will last of Zab running 70 yards chasing the ball all the way to Eddie on full-time. I'm sure it was so he could send love to the SS.

Imagine if he had closed Eddy down and scored. Would have been interesting to see his celebration!

honestly glad you beat us as i really don't want Liverpool winning the title and a fair result would have been 5-0 to you,

however, that Penalty is as soft as you can get and the outcry of 'corruption' had Liverpool been given a penalty to win against us would have been nauseating.

well done though and keep on winning.

Looked a penalty at the game and not changed my mind since seeing it on the TV replay, Bernie tried to stay on his feet but the half arsed tackle brought him down so a foul and in the box = Penalty.

Still wish we had put some of our other chances away to cement victory, but as others have said tickling the ball at the keeper will not get you many goals - just leather it.

Actually it's the tv slomo which brings any question into it. by making the clear contact, look less than it actually was.

I sit directly in line & there were 3 contacts, one after the other, not one. It was shit defending vs excellent dribbling skill & it shouldn't be our player getting the stick for it, as he wasn't the one who fucked up. In real time, rather than slomo, it's obvious.

I would have been fucking incandescent with rage, if that hadn't been given.

Majority would have accepted any sort of win so job don. Need to get through the next game again a just win game, then weeks rest to Watford then 3 weeks break before next league game , hopefully get Stones/Jesus/Ferna/Laporte back in that time.

It is always going to be tough in so many comps.

Yes soft, still a pen mind, daft from Anderson.

I think we were very lucky with that penalty decision in the league where a foul outside the box is not the foul when inside the box, where every push from behind is considered just a nudge or clash of shoulders, every tackle from behind is seen as legs-entanglement and so on....I still believe the title is The Dippers to lose considering the schedule, injuries and out-of-form players. But I honestly hope I talk rubbish!

I agree, I really don’t want Liverpool winning.

It was a fairly soft pen, but came seconds after what looked like a pretty nailed on pen. It was a pen, soft or not.

I think the main differences between our soft pen and one Liverpool may get, A, it’s rare. B, Bernardo wasn’t looking for it.
Regards B, Bernardo charged at 3/4 players and was hoping to get through it have his legs taken.

Regards West Ham. Pellegrini set you up well, pace at full backs, legs in midfield.
I’d have perhaps expected Antonio up top and perhaps Lanzini I’m too. Carrol was a nice idea for set pieces but he was dreadful at everything. He’s a diving twat too.

Regards City, looked leggy but still had some great moments. Should have been a clearer margin.
Bernardo & Sterling were different class when they came on.

Feel a bit sorry for Sané, he thrives with Sterling, yet keeps getting dropped to accommodate players in equally or poorer form.

I prefer to judge players in their second season. We're in a good place where we can give players time to adjust, some just take longer than others. I agree about spending the money on a good DM but they are gold dust. Jorginho was rated 4th best in the Premier League in a recent Daily Mirror article and he's crap.
Time to adjust, adjust from what? He has been playing in this league for several years now.
It is not like he has come in to the premiership from another league.
He lacks pace another year will not improve this.
He doesn't fit our style of play or system that will not improve next season as we will not change to suit him.
Bad fit and a bad signing. imho

I was surprised when we bought him in the summer. When Sane got injured against Cardiff and it looked like he would be out a long time I understood us trying to get him in as a replacement, although I had some reservations then that he was a good fit. Once we couldn't sign him then I thought that would be the end of it.

He had one good season at Leicester when he won POTY. After that he was very hit and miss, even the Leicester fans were slagging him off, his form did rally a bit though.

People say he should be given an extended run in the side but Pep sees him everyday in training and is obviously seeing the same lame showing we see when he does get his chance. He just doesn't appear to fit our style or system and I am not sure he is fitting in with the rest of the lads either. Ferna gripping him by the shirt and giving him a bollocking against the rags spoke volumes for me.

If he leaves I am sure he could prosper in another team and style and will probably score the usual worldie against us but he is just not hacking it here for whatever reason. I wish he would but I just don't see it.

And yet scored none and his crosses weren't great either.

We should have scored goals all game, whoever was on, so that is irrelevant.

But Sterling was vastly different in attitude & intent, than the players in the first half & it was startlingly different, when him & Bernardo came on. Had Sterling been in the same positions earlier, he would have had scoring opportunities, where others were hanging back, not affecting the play, or the West Ham defence..

West Ham survived, very luckily, throughout. But City were a different team, with those two on he pitch.
