Leroy Sane - 2018/2019 performances

To be honest, I don't really recall him being out of form before Pep dropped him and he did well when he came on against Schalke. I'm also confused (and have said this a few times in other threads) why we've forced him out of the side by deciding to push Bernardo back out wide again. Just doesn't make sense to me given Bernardo has been brilliant centrally and David Silva has been a bit of a passenger since xmas.

The question marks over his character only seem to have come about because Pep prefers to drop him and substitute him over some of the others which has caused people to speculate over the reasons. He didn't do much against Chelsea but he was brought on very late in that game which was pretty cagey at that point. Yesterday is the only game where i've watched him and thought he was seriously poor. It always seems to me that Pep has it in for him a bit, but given his man management of players like Sterling has been so brilliant, it's hard to tell really what's going on. Hope it can be sorted though as I think he's extremely talented.

Edit: mind you, I thought the same about young CriRo, but he has somehow managed to become an incredible goalscorer.

Love Sane, probably my favourite City player to watch when he's on it and I hope he kicks on again so he's back to first choice. Really is no comparison to a young Ronaldo though. Remember watching the twat at the Etihad for the first time and thinking he'd become the best player in the world. Leroy doesn't have the touch, strength or heading ability that Ronaldo had and is completely one footed. Not slagging Leroy because he can be amazing but I agree some blues get carried away when talking about him as a future world player of the year or scorer of 35 a season.
The correct comparison should be Garrett Bale. Who also can be world class but not very crisp with the ball.

I think Sane can become a devastatingly good winger, (he already is btw), but I don't see potential balon d'or. I do like that he has added a deadly freekick to his arsenal though. If he develops that kick into a consistent one. That might just be his ticket to Best player discussion.

A blurry winger with a deadly dead ball shot - Bale anyone?

Will be surprised if he's here next season.
Doesn't appear to be like Sterling in that deep down they know Pep knows best and will work and work with him to fulfil their potential. Sane's got incredible talent but no consistency and yet appears to sulk when Pep makes decisions on his form and attitude. Can see him agitating for a move because Pep sure ain't going to tolerate it. In fact Pep is testing him for a reaction but he doesn't seem aware or can't be bothered.

This thread really flip-flops.

He's a young player that's inconsistent. Sometimes he looks disinterested and fails at everything. But he's also a young player that when he's on it is arguably the most exciting and devastating player in England.

And I thought I should say there were a few moments in the first half last night where he really looked like he was trying to make something happen. It didn't click, but the benefit of having a squad like ours is that when it doesn't there should be a whole host of other players available to make things happen.

He isn't going anywhere lol,he is a young moody kid,all the best talents are moody fuckers

Hate when he gets subbed off. I just feel like even if he's playing absolute shit for 85 minutes, he can still win the game with a moment of magic. He's just got that superstar quality that is so rare.

Poor game last night though, like most of the squad. Not worried about Sane.

He's clearly better when there is a lot of space to be had. Last night West Ham played deep and made it hard for him. He's deadly going left and getting around to the byline, but not as effective cutting in on his right. So teams usher him inside. Raz has both in his game and keeps the ball closer to his body making it hard not to foul him. Leroy is a clear talent and if he can work on these things he'd be even more amazing. He could even work as a right winger if he could go right and put in good crosses. Mahrez has this problem too, but that's for another thread.

I think he actually wasn’t that bad yesterday. Several times he started runs in behind but Zinc and others couldn’t be bothered. If there’s no ambition in the balls in behind (or lack of understanding due to rotation), all he ever gets is a ball with him pinned to the line with multiple defenders on him.

He also had a great run through the middle.

I thought his performance in the second half was that of a player who knew at half time that he’d be coming off pretty soon

Dropped for the final so sulked against West Ham. Thought he was much worse than Mahrez actually.

I just can't get rid of this thought: is Sane really happy and fulfilling his potential? He is still young by some standards but time flies ...

I had Ronaldo in mind as i often read he has that potential,i see a lot of Sane in him

Ronaldo was scoring 40 goals and winning a ballon d'or at Sané's age.

The comparison worked when leroy was 20 but hes not become the consistent performer Ronaldo did.

I'm not one for going on ages to compare,it depends how they mature, which club/manager they have,Sane was young player of the year last year so he has it in him,it just might take a bit longer for him to be consistent

Jesus christ why?! How can anyone have watched last night's game and not immediately thought "Ah yeah that's why Pep has preferred Sterling and Bernardo on the wings."
didnt catch the game but prior to i think he at times has been more deserving than kdb or silva. bernardo has also looked better centrally. we need them all in rhythm
