Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

How savvy are you on legal machinations? If, for the sake of argument, UEFA decided to ban us and we then responded by trying to take FFP down in a Court of Law, would they be obliged to reinstate us into the Chimps League if we prevailed? Also, would there be legal precedent for us claiming that FFP is unfair at all, given that we effectively accepted the terms and conditions of it by paying our fine in 2014, and what might be in scope in terms of damages were we to win our case? I'm just wondering what the potential outcomes might be.

I'm no lawyer but I've dealt with a few legal matters.

If City took FFP down legally, I believe UEFA would not only have to reinstate us but also pay huge damages if we had been excluded from any tournaments; although we might well continue to compete in Euro-competition while any court case was settled.

I see no reason why we couldn't challenge FFP in court, especially if UEFA go back in time...

Unless absolute last resort cannot see our owners considering a legal solution because it now suits us to have FFP.
Why would we invite new money to invest opposing us when we had to struggle with FFP?
Just financial reason I suppose but that's what our owner is good at.

That's the ECA (Rummenige) plan. It's a win/win for them - take us out or UEFA is wrecked. The latter outcome means they can re-arrange the CL prize money for the elite clubs' benefit. They could then replace the inevitably damaged Infantino at FIFA with someone more amenable to ECA's interests. On balance our German friends would be cheering us on I think.

This. And I guess Mansour's plan is to wait, launch the FIFA Club world cup in 2021 with Infantino's assistance and eventually expand it, shifting the balance of power or even replacing CL completely, reducing UEFA to the role of Euros and EL organizer.

The revenge is going to be sweet, ECA have chosen wrong guys to f*ck with.

The amount of mud-slinging on social media by dickheads like Duncan Castles is off the scale ... Is there nobody at Man City that wants to make an example of at least one these idiots? The way some of them run their mouths off, there must some grounds for legal action based on defamation. We're just lying down and letting them kick us in the bollocks over and over and over again at the moment .... Really need a new approach from the club, it feels like were under siege from these c*nts ...
Good. Being under siege promotes club/team spirit. It makes it more likely that City will win stuff.

The whole thing is too hot for UEFA & our owners have so much money. There is a very long road in front of this particular tin can bordered by some very long grass.
I might be wrong but I feel if UEFA don't take us down now, or at least try, they never will. The dispute is all historical. The deep it goes in time, the less chance they act.

The other aspect is that the source, or one source of the leaks, has gone, and that time frame has been thoroughly examined. Most of the major skeletons have probably already been 'discovered' (touch wood).

As far as I remember we agreed to accept the UEFA sanctions but made it clear that in no way do we accept that we were in the wrong, or that their judgement was in accordance with the rules. This seems to have been done at least in part to make sure we don't fall into the trap you point out.

Legal action would be a last resort if we got a UCL ban that was deemed to be against our interests.

Sam Lee has just tweeted about CAS ruling in favour of Gala against Uefa trying to do them for ffp because they had already agreed a settlement like we did in 2014.

Now that Rui Pinto has been arrested and is facing extradition it will be interesting to see how this story develops. If City get punished by the game's authorities then it should be challenged in court and this character should be called as a witness, or as the accused himself.

I wonder what terms were agreed in our settlement with UEFA.It's not unsual in these sort of cases for both sides to agree to take no further action against each other and some of the new allegations relate to the same time period we were sanctioned for last time. What a bloody mess. The only certainity is that the lawyers will all get richer over this one.

At least we can afford them!

Maybe already posted, but here's an interview with Rui Pinto arrested in his Budapest appartment from early Feb 2019:
