Jadon Sancho

Sancho left because he wasn’t going to get game time ahead of Raz, Sane or Bernie. Because he wasn’t as good as them.

Despite his performances for Dortmund, he still wouldn’t be getting game time for us ahead of Raz, Sane and Bernie. Because he still isn’t as good as them.

It’s part and parcel of what City are now - a club with superb, world class players in most positions. If players back themselves - like Foden and Zinchenko - great. If they think, ‘I need game time NOW’ and leave- good luck to them.

The clubs vision was to provide players for the first team from the academy on a regular basis, don't think it's changed.

So you don’t think income of around £70 million (I think that’s right) of sales from Academy products is a significant amount of revenue?

OK.

That's exactly what I said significant revenue streams and not just to find first team players...

You say the same thing as I do about Zinchenko. Here we have a young player who may not have the full set of tricks that Sancho might have but the lad knows that and has done his very best to improve his game and prove his adaptability and in my mind could fill any position down the left side touchline. He is prepared to fight for a place and yet there are no sulks if he is overlooked.

If Sancho had stayed and fought for a place and went out to prove his adaptability then we would have had a hell of a player, but he didn't or he wouldn't so unfortunate it may be but it's probably better that we no longer have him sulking away behind the scenes.

Alistair Mann and Nigel Spackmann got the usual digs in about City letting him go.
Perhaps with some justification.
We seem to allow our bought PL players a couple of seasons to adapt to City yet give virtually no PL time to our Academy graduates no matter how much potential they have.

Sorry mate but that is simply wrong. Comparing established prem players with school boys from academy. We all want the academy to produce if possible, you’ll be telling us next you’d take finishing 6th as long as academy boys were playing week in week out

Not at all, not all Academy players are equal as indeed not all PL players are equal so please note I am only selecting not generalising.
We actually buy for millions of pounds say Mahrez and play him regularly in first team despite his inability to perform, he must be given time to adapt etc..
Compare that with never playing the schoolboy who scores regularly for Dortmund?

Mistakes can happen with Academy players as well as bought players but at least give the best of our crop the chance to play at top level before buying expensively with apparently still no guarantee of success.
