Harry Maguire

The only problem with him is that he's slow as fuck. Considering we play a high line any ball over the top we're fucked.
That's a long way from the only problem mate...

His positioning, spacial awareness and long range passing all look well below what we require and that won't be all. He's riding off the back of the World Cup- Otamendi is in a different league, on a different planet.

Personally think this guy is a good player with the caveat of him being signed at a reasonable price.

Perhaps people aren't keen because he's not from Portugal or Spain.

I rate him too. It is always a gamble though as it is so difficult to envisage how he would be in the system we play, which is unique.

I'd be in absolute hysterics if united signed Maguire for £75m. I wouldn't usually be arsed but that's surely a sizeable chunk of our budget and we're going to need to strengthen in a fair few positions this summer.

Let's see what the Leicester fans, who've seen him play over forty times in the last year, think...

"I hope [he goes to Manchester City] he's absolute pump. I have never ever understood the hype."

"Great. Can we give them Wes as well."

"Think we should make it £75m just so it's the same price as Van Dijk... the comparisons when it all goes wrong will be much easier for the journos!!"

"Sell sell sell at that price "

"I would take half of that tbh"

"Smalling's probably better... the other two [Bailly and Jones] are probably the same quality as Maguire - the difference being every mistake they make at United is under scrutiny whilst Maguire gets away with his errors here."

That's all from the first PAGE of the Leicester forum thread on his possible departure. Also several fans who think Evans is better. I haven't got time to read further at the moment but will later.

No agenda against the lad but if that's what his own fans think of him we should be deeply concerned about the idea of spending £70m on him...

Could that money not go towards a left-back and DM and persuade Otamendi to stay one more year? Or even sign a cheaper CB?

If there own fans want rid, you know we should not go for him

They don't rate him because he plays for Leicester and is English. And because most of them don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to football.

The contrast..... however, agreeing with a guy who felt Mahrez was a superior dribbler than Bernadoooooooo earlier in the season, doesn’t make them an authority. He’s also wanted vinny gone for nigh on 3 years....

Having a difference in opinion doesn’t make the opposing view less insightful, now does it? Anyway, I’m off to scratch my elbow...

Good player - may become great with the influence of better players around him and Pep's guidance.
Plus don't underestimate the 'English factor'. If City can have four key players in a successful England team it will help win hearts and minds as well as lucrative sponsorship deals.
If we don't get him it will put up the price for United. He will have lesser players around him and little guidance. Probably will get dropped from the England set up when he gets told to feign injury when international games come around. It will be seen as yet another bad buy.
It's your call, Harry

Otamendi (a slower player) plays in that same system. Speed is not an issue
Give it a rest pal, Otamendi might be slower over a long distance but Maguire’s turning circle and acceleration is on par with Richard Dunne. Speed or more so acceleration and speed over 5-10 yards is very much an issue.

I'm genuinely asking can someone please tell me how maguire makes us a better team ? Makes no sense what so ever.
Ask Pep if we sign him.

Its quite clear he is a threat at set pieces, comfortable on the ball and able to bring it out of defence, has a good attitude and could well go up 4/5 levels under Pep.

He’s a good player. He doesn’t improve us but that’s a very hard thing to do, there’s probably only de ligt who’s obtainable that could do that in this position. Kompany needs replacing and otamendi might too, for the right price I’d be fine with him coming in. The issue is it isn’t going to be the right price, Leicester are going to demand a crazy fee and given our need for reinforcements and replacements elsewhere and a potential ban to plan for too it doesn’t make much sense.

If it makes no sense we won’t buy him. If we buy him it’s because it makes sense you just can’t see it. The sense it makes to me is he gives us a physical presence when we need it, he’s different to Stones and Laporte. He’s good bringing the ball up the pitch and he’s homegrown we will need at least one incoming player to be homegrown. For us to buy him it must make sense to Pep and Txiki otherwise we wont buy him.

Confirmation bias.
That is not the general consensus of the thread you quoted.
I just read several pages of it spanning multiple months. Not just one day in march.
They rate him. Highly
The only reason some supporters want to sell is because they want Tielemans, a winger and backup for Vardy.
